How many miles are too many….
Planning on picking up a 981 CS w/ PDK in the next month or so for street and track use. I run in the advanced groups so am aware of the preventive heat management projects and will do the requisite safety items too, but am asking for your thoughts on how many miles are too many for me to consider. Obviously service history is very important and I will do a thorough PPI, but just wondering if 60k miles is too many and I should target closer to 30-40k miles.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I run a 2015 Cayman with 85K miles with no issues. Runs like new.
My OCI is 5K miles, and PDK Fluiding Change at 50K miles. Just need to do proper maintenance.

I have a 2014 Cayman S that just ticked over 85k miles. Bought it 1-owner used at 23k miles.
The only unscheduled maintenance needed so far were the door cards, headliner, and ignition coils. And I live very close to a lot of twisty roads so she gets driven hard fairly frequently:
Get a PPI obviously but this platform doesn't seem to have any terrible gremlins.

I bought a 6MT 981 GTS 2 years ago with 45k miles on it, and it has 60k miles now. I have 22 track days on the car (advanced/instructor run groups). The overrev report results suggest that the car had not been previously tracked. I bought the car from Carmax, so no service records were provided. I had a PPI performed by a local independent shop. I bought an extended warranty from Carmax with a high deductible as catastrophe insurance. The car has been solid, with the only issue being a failed/failing changeover valve throwing a cooling system warning at my last track event last month. Out of caution I cut short the event, but drove the car 300 miles home with no issues. I've been going through the car and replacing things: coils and plugs, heat shields for the coils, and the extended warranty bought a serpentine belt and tensioner last week. I had to have a rear axle replaced during the same visit, but that was covered by the Carmax warranty, as was the changeover valve. Maintenance costs have been very reasonable (considering I am doing 10+ track days a year) using a local, trusted independent shop..

+1 on the above. Bought a 2014 981 CS at 46k miles. Running just above 66k miles now. The car has seen everything since I bought it -- multiple track days (including a trip into a gravel trap), hiking (don't take it to public trailheads anymore though), multi-day cross country trips, grocery shopping, and more recently ski day trips. Still as good as new.
I change the oil myself every 5k miles or sooner depending on the number of track days. Only routine and preventative maintenance otherwise.

I bought mine at about 75k (IIRC) and I'm over 90k now. I don't track, but I'm very happy with the car and can't imagine ever trading it in for anything.

My experience with many vehicles over a 60+ year period is that a regularly used one, which is well maintained to the manufacturers specifications is far preferable to a very low km garage queen that has sat around sagging, absorbing moisture, slowly decaying. These cars are meant to be driven, so choose one that has been loved, driven, cared for, irrespective of the mileage.

Current mileage for my '14 981CS is 68K. I have owned it four years without any major repairs. I replaced one temperature sensor and the tires.
Consumer Reports gives very good reviews of the 981 design, very reliable.
I live in Fort Lauderdale, watch out for local "drivers". Good luck.
