Back in the Porsche Family...981 CS this time
Rennlisters,
Happy to be back in a Porsche. Picked up a low mileage and well cared for 981 CS in Charlottesville, VA yesterday and enjoyed the 14 hour drive home Saturday/Sunday. Now to start making it my own, so have a couple questions.
1 - It has Model Designation Delete and I would like to add the 'Porsche' and 'Cayman S' to the rear deck. Does anyone have an approach other than buying the emblem template for ensuring alignment and proper spacing?
2 - It has 19" wheels, I'll have to check the offsets, but they are Porsche Boxster Wheels. What are your thoughts on any spacers to bring the wheels out just a little bit...would 5mm be too much?
Thanks and hope to see you at Sebring soon...I have a little work to do to prepare it for track duty.
Will post more pictures when i have some better ones.

Congrats on the CS - it looks great! Are you sure you want to put the model designation back on? That was the first thing that had to go on mine. I needed to correct the paint underneath and it's nearly impossible to do so with the letters on there. I really like how the 982 versions did away with the model name on the back hatch even though I don't like it on the bumper either. I love the clean look but do what you like.

Perhaps consider relocating the badging down to the rear bumper instead? The GT4 and Spyder both have the model designation located here and I think it looks a lot cleaner.

I have no idea about the emblem add, but I can tell you that I use 12mm spacers all the way around, and that brings the wheels out flush with the edge of the wheel well with both sets of wheels (winter wheels are 18" Boxster IIIs and summer wheels are 20" Carrera S IIIs). I started off with the 19" Boxster S wheels, and always thought they were a bit too recessed. I'm guessing the spacers would probably have worked with them, too.
I got the idea from Tommy L Garage - he had a long thread here where he did tons of upgrades to his 981 Cayman S, and one of them was adding spacers. There's a video in the post below of him putting on the spacers and the before and after look (lots of great upgrade ideas in that whole thread):

I also followed a tutorial video from ECS (the place I bought my spacers) on how to measure for spacers, and the result I got was also 12mm. Here are before and after shots of my Cayman with and without the 12mm spacers:

Yeah I was going to mention that model designation delete on the 981 still has the Porsche name but in a lower position since there is no 'Cayman S' below it. I don't think there was an option to not have the Porsche name from the factory.

Projects starting, but looking for an opinion.
Removed the “Porsche” rear emblem and am now ready to decide on putting model only or Porsche and Model. The older cars only had the model, so that is what I have always been used to, but what is the recommendation of the group?
I won’t leave it blank…
thanks!

I just purchased a Black "S" and changed that letter only, nice look. I think you can get red as well.

I have the standard emblems on the rear, however, I removed the chrome "S" and replaced it with a Black one, you can also get a Red one which would look great on White. I also like the all black for both with maybe a Red "S"? I also went to Euro GTS taillights.... should look great on White as well.
Anyway - do what you like! And Congrats! I have the 20 inch wheels, I am not a big fan of mucking around with the geometry the Porsche engineers thought would be best,,,, but that's just me. I think if you when 20 inches it would give you a meaner look without widening the stance. Just my thought.
