Back to the 981 family
After 4 or 5 years without a 981, I am back again to the 981 family. I aimed for a 991 but landed again with a 981 Boxster! Just got my 2014 Boxster with 6k miles and the car has all the options I always wanted: X73 suspension, PDK, Bose Sound system, sport chrono package and more. The car seem to be mechanically in great condition, was always serviced at Porsche dealership and the older gentleman hardly drove it (no kidding lol). There are some cosmetic flaws, mostly smaller scratched here and there and tons of swirl marks but I think those are all fixable. The top looks almost brand new which is very rare for a 10 year old boxster. The interior is in a pretty good shape, as you would expect from such a low mileage car. The main issue I see with this car are the de laminated door inserts. I know it is a big topic but in the past I had not to deal with it, this is the first time.I will start to read into this topic and hope can find a decent solution. For now I will get the fluids changed, new spark plugs and a set of new tires. Happy to be back and looking forward to new adventures. I will post pictures shortly.

I know I need to read through all the threads but maybe somebody has an easy answer:
- Is there meanwhile a decent solution to fix the delamination without paying 3-4k per door?
- Is there a good detail shop in LA area which can take care of swirl marks and small scratches here and there?

Lots of threads referencing his work here and on Planet-9. Think it's like $1k for both panels, including shipping. I plan to send him mine in the spring once I get my car out of storage.
Also, here's a recent DIY video:

Congratulations on the 981 and welcome back to the fam. X73 and Sport Chrono is an amazing drive. In addition to your door panels, I'd probably check the top drains to make sure they're clear. There are several threads here on how to do the process. Good Luck and post up the pics.

Another thumbs-up for Pedro's Garage. Just got my door panels back from him a couple weeks ago and they're perfect (and warrantied). Total cost with shipping was about US$750. I'm in Canada but I shipped them from a US location. I would be wary of any DIY solutions, as you want to ensure the door-mounted airbag will deploy in the event of a side impact.
And as mac-flyer mentioned, it's worth checking the roof drains located behind the side air intakes. There's an excellent YouTube video by a guy in the UK that shows you step-by-step how to do it. Not difficult at all, and I found a fair quantity of debris in mine, so it's worth doing if the car is ever parked under trees, etc.

Thank you all for your messages! The tip with Pedro's Garage made my day. The door thing almost made me not to buy the car but after the long drive home, I am so happy I bought it. The car is driving like a dream and with the X73 suspension you are glued to the road.
I was also debating if a car with 6000 miles is not a little risky because it sat a lot but based on my first impressions the car is a great mechanical condition. Compared to my last Boxster, this engine seem to run much smoother and the pdk shift much faster. My last boxster would show on I carsoft bunch of missfires on all cylinders, this one has 0 missfires. The PDK of the last boxster had a clear lag between pushing the button and shifting, this one is instantaneous. I am bringing it next week to my Indy to do the fluids and spark plugs and will have it also checked by the dealership later next week. Besides checking the drains, spark plugs, brake fluids, oil and tires, would you do anything else on the car? It was serviced at a Porsche dealership but only oil changes and brake fluids were done.
I owe this forum a lot. I learned here so much about my cars. Together with the members in forum, I was able to do most of the DIY on my last boxster and can't wait to get back doing all the fun stuff with and on the car again. There are certain things I don't think I will be doing myself anymore like the spark plugs. As fun as it was, when you don't have a monster lifter, it is pretty tight to work down there and I don't know if have the patience to do it again.

Here we go, few pictures and it is not even detailed yet. My Macan S blends in nicely in the background :-) In one of the pictures you can see the door insert from outside. I will send them to Pedro as soon I have the first maintenance stuff taken care of. One good thing is when you know the 981, where and what to look at first. During the buying process, as much thorough you want to be, you always miss here and there things. As I brought the car home, I started to go over all the known problem areas and so far I am super happy. One of the things which annoyed the heck out of me was the windshield goo of my last boxster. On this one, it seems they replaced at one point the windshield but there was still some goo here and there around the windshiel. I took care of it right away and it looks great. I am going to eat the elephant one bite at the time: Maintenance first, body shop after, interiror exterior detail last.

Upgrade the steering wheel. The effect on the car is transformational.

I mean upgrading to get rid of the multifunction buttons in favor of 991.2-generation paddles. That's definitely not cheap (requires a new airbag among other things) but it really will look and feel like a different car.

I see. I have lots of big and small items to pay for to get this car to the level of a garage queen. Once all that is taken care of, I will go for the steering wheel project.
