He wrote about the Spyder in his Excellence column in the last issue (not the current issue with Jerry on the cover). Very complimentary, as he is with the 981. I was disappointed that he did not compare the experiences, as I, too, enjoy his writing and value his opinion.
Shame on both of you Porsche enthusiasts for not subscribing to Excellence!

Speaking of Excellence, here is Stout's review of the 981 (note the penultimate sentence, including in particular his reference to the Boxster Spyder):

Indeed... But you can get just "911"... if you pay extra.
Paying more to get less. Porsche logic...

Any thoughts on why the new car gets the "old" six speed manual rather than the new seven speed ?? Is this another example of dumbing down or is there a good reason ??
Thanks for the link to the review

The 7 speed manual is basicly a single clutch version of the PDK. It's probably way more expensive than the old Getrag 6 speed manual.
Porsche has a much higher profit margin on a 911 than on a Boxster. The 911 can carry the cost of the 7 speed as standard equipment, the Boxster can't

To me it's a non-issue. Does the car really need a 7th gear? Again, the 991 moves into GT territory and can use the 7th gear for those long GT hauls on the Autobahn. The 981? Forget the Autobahn and head for the hills. 6 speeds is more than enough for that.

Actually I don't think Porsche did any disservice to the Boxster or Cayman by sticking with the old 6 Spd. The 7 Spd is actually a PDK trans but is controlled by third pedal and manual shifter instead of a button. You still have the complexity and weight gain. No one has tested it yet but I imagine that like the electronic steering you will lose a great deal of feeling because of it.

I am so tired of the "is it man enough for me" stuff.
It screams of compensation for getting sand kicked in their faces at the beach when they were younger.
A pink Nissan Cube with unicorn graphics would be "man" enough for them...

Actually, I did have a subscription, but I let it expire for 2 reasons:
1) I was tired of asking for missing issues that wouldn't show up
2) I'm still owed my last issue. After 2 attempts to request my last issue be mailed to me, they were both ignored.
I liked the magazine, but I don't appreciate being ignored and ripped off. Unfortunately, I'm done with excellence.

I love the new Boxster and can't wait to have one in my garage. I need to up the mileage on my 2005 Boxster in order to justify the new and improved version to my better half.
