Having second thoughts on my 981 color selection.
Starting to have second thoughts on my color selection (GT Silver/Carrera Red)
I have always loved Porsche's classic Silver/red combo, but I'm thinking one of the following:
-Keep my Classic Porsche combo as is?
-Change the interior/roof to Espresso/Brown... Tame down the red?
-Change the interior to Black with contrast stitching
-White/Black with contrast stitching interior
-Go through the battle of a PTS color
I'm getting close to build lockdown as my build date is August 28th. I think I have a couple weeks to do so. I have yet to see one in person (hopefully this Wednesday before the launch party).
Here's my build:

$ isn't the issue. I want to get a combo I think is best for me and something I can keep for a while and not get sick of. I guess I'm worried that the red will get to me after a while. Silver black seems too conservative to me (no offense to anyone with this combo) thus the reason of the Espresso option???

Just in case you don't know. Porsche has offered US Porsche dealers with a list of 'Paint to Sample' colors that they have pre-approved for the 991,981 or Panamera. Some of the colors are not yet approved but they are doing a 'feasibility' studies to see if the color is compatible with the various surfaces that make up the car - steel, aluminum, plastic, etc. - and will not fade at different rates for each surface. Other colors can't be done, period, and they tell you up-front so you don't waste your time with the request.
One thing I noticed is that 'Riviera Blue' is on the 'pre-approved' list and ready to go. So this time around, depending on the PTS color you pick, you might not have the headaches that you suffered back in March of 2011. That was a rush situation with a one-week window of opportunity to order a PTS Spyder. I think you should consider PTS. I think you would get the most pleasure from that experience. I know I would!
Best of luck with whatever decision you make!

Eduardo,
as always, the fountain of insider knowledge
1) would be really nice for the car configurator to have these choices available
2) the new 3D configurator for the 981 Boxster is superb and having the opportunity to view some of these "historic" colors on a 981 would be a smart idea for the Porsche IT folks who run the website
3) I don't know why the 3D configurator only works for the 981 Boxster
cheers and I'll see you soon at Parade,
Steve

first, I can't believe you said that
what makes you think you'll have the car long enough to get tired of it
second, stick with the plan, classic combo! there will be more cars and therefore, more choices
third, listen to what Eduardo says, he is a "wise man"
cheers,
Steve

I'm really shocked that Grigiocampovolo is on the short list of colors and approved at that!!!
I almost ordered a TTRS PTS with that color! I think it's a sign!
Here's my quick photoshop!

The Silver with the Brown would look very classy and unique. Silver and Red is a classic combo too, can't go wrong with this either.
If you want to stand out then pick a PTS color but don't expect to get any of the money spent back when you trade it in.
By the way, do you really think you will hold on to the car for a while or is 1 year a while? Personally I think there's nothing wrong with exchanging cars frequently if you have the means. You only live once and why not try different things, especially considering how many good options are out there these days.
Good luck with your decision.
