Default Plastic side and air-intake.. WHY???

I saw the first new Cayman S today at the dealer, what a gorgeous car, to me, a much better upgrade than 991 over 997 and the whole new Boxster/Cayman is a massive improvement over last, while 991 is in some ways going backward. I love the new lines and how the side looks (from a distance - see below)

The one BIG FAIL for me, is the stupid air intake and all of the side is just PLASTIC! WTF?! It does look different with a different hue of color due to material being different and the break of the curve completely ruines the amazing lines that were added on this gen!

Why the heck they've done that? I can guarantee it's for cost cutting!

You can get them painted to match the car.

Ha? I know. It is the same color. My question is why it's plastic? Can you order it in a different side color?

My Boxster is the same. One of the few options on my car are body color painted vents which looks good to me. The plastic panels beyond them are a bit weird, but they won't dent which is cool.

Wouldn't be so sure the plastic is for cost cutting. Porsche worked hard to get the weight down.

If you do not like plastic air intake vents how can you stand the fact the engine has a plastic intake manifold?

And I hate to think how you'll react when plastic oil pans/sump plates come into use.

I don't have a problem with the vent at all. That's just as before or like Turbo and it's fine. Problem is the whole side panel is now plastic.
