Default Replced plugs and coils today

Was a fairly easy job. Took about 2 hrs. Had to remove the 2 plastic pieces in the wheel well on both sides and found that the easiest way to get to the coil bolts was with a universal joint socket and a 2 ft. straight extension. Pretty much allows you to get to all bolts and use the length of the extension to tighten and loosen. Same concept for the plugs. I had a magnetic plug remover which is a big help. Make sure the clips for the wires going to the coils are securely fastened after you put everything back together.

Turns out I had 5 of 6 coils cracked and plugs looked pretty bad. I am assuming PO never changed them. I replaced with the thicker coils and longer bolts. I really seemed to make a big difference in how smooth the car sounded and idled after I changed them. If you have never upgraded your coils, I would highly recommend doing so. My 06 has 65K miles on it.

Just did the same over the winter. Pretty easy. +1 on the magnetic spark plug socket.

I replaced my coils and spark plugs at just around 40,000 miles. Time to change the brake fluid too. I had changed the serpentine belt and air filter already.

If anyone is looking to do this, ECS tuning had the best prices I could find. First time I used them and all was very good. Rusnak, Brake fluid and serpentine are on the list as well. The car did not have very good service records so I am just assuming nothing was done and starting from scratch.

What coils did you use that were "thicker"?

Updated coils are available from Porsche that are thicker hence they require longer screws.

The older versions tended to crack, so they came out with a new version with thicker heads on them which require longer bolts. I don't even know if they sell the old ones anymore since they had issues.
