Let's Play "What Fell off my 987.2 Engine?"
Washed the engine today on my 2010 Cayman as it was somewhat grubby. After I was done I found this rubber ring under the car. It's about 2.5" in diameter and knurled like it's a grip for a cap on something.
The car runs fine and I don't think it's anything critical, but still trying to figure out what it is. Anyone seen this before?

I agree, looks like some road debris that was hanging there and then fell down for you to find.

How did you "wash the engine"?

Lit some candles, ran a bath, added some essential oils, and gave it a nice dip...why?
LOL...washed it the usual way. Took the top cover off, sprayed it all down with Gunk Foamy Engine Cleaner, and then rinsed it off with a gentle hose stream. On the Cayman you want to use a drop cloth in the trunk and behind the seats to keep them dry, but other than that it's just like any other car.
Wasn't too bad but there was about 10 yeas of road dust on there, so it's a lot less grubby now.

Did not take any, sorry, and the cover's back on.
It wasn't a detailing job or anything, just a quick clean. So picture a slighty-less-grubby 70K mile engine and you'll get the general idea

I think its a piece of the IMS bearing.

Did you use set an adjustable pattern nozzle on your Hose? This looks a lot like the rubber trim ring that presses onto the outside of the nozzle head. Mine keeps popping off and looks just like this.

Now I feel like a dumbass. But at least I'm a dumbass with a clean engine.
