Default Key Fob and TPMS frequency

In dealing with replacing the TPMS sensors I was speaking to a rep at HUF who said there could be 433 Mhz and 315 Mhz tire sensors in a 2008 987. He said to check the frequency of your key FOB and that will be the frequency of the TPMS sensors. I have phoned a dealer, given my VIN and I've been told that the freq is 433 (everywhere on the internet, it's 433). My key FOB is 315 (tested with diagnostic tester).

Does that mean anything?
Should your key FOB and TPMS be the same or different?
Has anyone had to put 315 TPMS sensors in their Porsche?

Thanks!

From Rennlist 993 forum regarding key fob:
315Mhz is for America (that's why your FOB says "FCC" on the back).

433Mhz is for Europe.

I recently replaced my TPMS with 433 Mhz sensors.

Okay, so what Huf is telling me is not correct then. Thanks for helping me troubleshoot this. As you said, NA purchased Porsches will have 315Mhz key fobs and I'm reading that many people have 433Mhz sensors ...
Thanks!

Please explain the significance of knowing transmitting frequency of the Bosch Keyfob when replacing TPMS transmitters? Are you concerned about frequency conflicts between the two or making sure you have the proper match for your system?

It's my understanding Porsche used 433 MHz up to the 2009 9A1 cars, then moved to 315 Mhz for TPMS transmitters

.

Yes, of course. This thread has come about because the Huf technician stated that his database shows there is a split within the MY08 for the two frequencies. He then advised checking the key fob frequency because that will match the TPMS frequency. The problem is that everywhere I check, it all states 433 for the TPMS for a 2008 987. That's what I had put into the tires. The Autel TPMS tool I'm using also states on it's site:

So you can see why I'm confused about what next steps I should take.

Thanks!

After the September 11th tragedy, the FCC announced that they will be giving the 600 - 800 MHz frequencies over to emergency communications and cellular companies. This was a response to problems associated with the lack of communication and conflicts with frequencies the various gov emergency agencies were having with their equipment. The problem was historically well-documented, but unfortunately, it took Sep 11th for the FCC to makes serious plans to expand frequencies to allow new innovations in communication devices. This meant that devices (wireless microphones, wireless telephones, etc.) had to stop using those frequencies by 2010. This in turn, caused many existing 600-800 equipment manufacturers to design their equipment to move down to lower frequencies (e.g. 400-500 Mhz band). IMHO, Porsche's response was to move to an even lower transmitting frequency to avoid any potential conflicts. 433 Mhz is still a legal and safe operating range, but conflict are possible. 315 MHz is even better IMHO.

My advice is to email you local Porsche dealership parts dept. and explain that you're planning to purchase new wheels and need to know the correct part (i.e. frequency) to order associated with your VIN. I've done this many times and the parts dept have been more than happy to help.

If you're a Discount Tire customer, I'd suggest driving your car there and have them check. I think they can scan them to verify (call first to verify that). In my case, for my 2008 Boxster, it was 433.
