What I learned today (Cupholders)
1) The Pana cupholder looks like the Cayman, but it is different.
2) The internal parts look even more the same, but the middle flap/door (the part I needed to move from one to the other once I found they are different) is also different and not swappable.
3) When you take it apart to try to swap the doors before you find out you the little springs will fly out.
4) On the Pana one the pivot bar is separate left to right so after learning you have to hold both springs on the side you are pulling out you get it right on the second side and keep a spring from flying across the room.
5) On the Cayman it is one bar so you have to hold each spring as you pull it out, which you will learn as soon as the first spring you are not holding goes flying.
6) The Pana springs are bigger and easier to find, and the Cayman springs are smaller and vanish into this air.
7) You can not use the extra Pana springs to put the Cayman back together.
8) When you do start trying to put it back together you will find that the little gears that make the slow opening work, are actually replaceable without disassembling the unit.
9) The seller on Ebay won't take back the disassembled Pana cup holder
Overall it was an educational day.
Anyone have a 987 Boxster/Cayman cup holder in any condition as long as the center door latch is working?

Yup, I still have my cupholder assembly from my 2010. Listed here: https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1296804
All works, just missing that one flappy-part. I can take a video of its operation, if you want to see it.

I don't need "original Porsche" to go into a car with a salvage title.

I don't know if your Pana holder was a Porsche unit from another Porsche,
But I got a generic aftermarket replacement cupholder from a seller on eBAy or maybe Amazon (easy to find) that fit perfectly and even seems to hold cups better (the plastic is less flimsy). Cost about $130 if I recall.

Yep, that is my next move.
This just ended up being a $45 learning process.

I assume you had the standard failure of the door not staying closed? I simply turned the door springs around so they held the door shut. So now instead of pushing on the door to open it, I just pull the door open no one has complained

997 shares the same mechanism too if you find one being parted.
