Pops and bangs from stock exhaust
Hey guys,
I have a 2006 987.1 Boxster base model (2.7L), and I love absolutely everything about it. Only thing I'm a little disappointed is that I haven't been able to make the pops and bangs from the exhaust even when I'm reving it up.
Would I be able to get the pops and bangs from the stock exhaust ever? Or is this car too "base" for that?

I thought pops, bangs were bad, unburned fuel. My S doesn’t make those noises so guess the system works well. A bad tune might help😀.
Never thought about it but wouldn’t they come during deceleration or after lifting off the gas maybe? I have had a minor backfire on track when driving got very active.

The OEMs work very hard to match fuel injection to the engine demand conditions. Pops and bangs, as noted, do mean unburned fuel that subsequently ignites in the exhaust system.
They used to be more prevalent on deacceleration or overun, as the older systems couldn't react fast enough to the changing conditions. You do see this behavior on race cars, as they typically have straight pipes and are not constrained by emmisions. I know the NASCAR broadcast commentators will say "he had to get out of the gas" because they can see flames coming out of the exhausts.

Showing mine aswell but gave me a good chuckle. I was all for this at an earlier stage in my life but this is the closest feeling to being shot at in the UK - when being passed on my bike and they 'drop a few' on the way past LOL!

On my wife's 2012 Mini, when you activate Sport mode you get pops and burbles on overrun like the old Minis. Obviously that's programmed into the ECU for effect. It's subtle and not super loud or anything but it's kind of fun.

I hear that sound from the "stance kidz" around town. It's a look-at-me kinda thing, like a big subwoofer but it's an exhaust.
That being said, my '07 Cayman with a Carnewal exhaust is giving a bit of off-throttle burbling as of late, maybe that's enough? I do like it!

100%….used to track RS Escorts back in the day with high lift/long duration cams and heavy jetting on DCOE side drafts. To me the banging on the overrun was always the sound of bore washing…and expense 😬

My FVD sound edition cat back exhaust produces "pops and burbles". As someone who is way over 20 and wouldn't think of "buying a Supra" - I would, actually, because the current model is a very good car.
It was not exactly what I expected, but I think it's lots of fun. When my wife's in the car, I refer to it as my flamethrower.

Pops and bangs are something that make me think I have an air leak in the exhaust system. The guy across the street from me has a Jag that does this all the time and it's annoying AF, even for me, who loves a nice exhaust.
I used to have a K75 that would backfire if I didn't shut the throttle down entirely on deceleration and it was ridiculously tiresome to live with.
