OEM headers with cats
So my 2006 s has a bad cat. New headers with cat are right about $6,000 installed. That includes o2 sensors, gaskets and hardware. Anybody in cali successfully install and smog check an aftermarket option?

You can try Cantrell Motorsports in Washington, he did a set of my 987.2 manifolds with HJS 200 cells which have passed CA smog.
I know there are a couple shops in CA that do similar work but didn't write them down. Possibly Vision Motorsports near LA.
Another option is to contact Gert Carnewal in Belgium, prices with shipping are very reasonable.
Either way, you never, ever, let the smog techs know anything has been done.

I guess it depends on which state you live in. If you are in CA, then I will not be of any help.
I'm in NC and I went with the UK Top Gear 200 cell cat. Not without issues but they have been worked out. See articles below. When I first purchased this car (2007 CS), the PPI turned up a bad cat on one side. An outfit in the sellers area (Portland, OR) replaced one cat with an aftermarket product that I am sure got installed for way less than $7000. I'm guessing less than $1000. PM me if you want more details.

Carnewal will retrofit high flow cats into your stock headers so it will pass visual check as well as OBD2‚ and quite affordably, too.

It’s the cat only. The shop said they have a cayman in there right now with Fabspeed headers that’s throwing a check engine light, I was going to go that direction but not after hearing that.

I had Bank 1 / passenger side cat go bad. Bought a set of used cats off a guy going full race car. He too had a '06 CS at about the same mileage as mine, 62k.
The Bank 2 / driver side cat is stilling in my garage if that is all you need, shoot me a PM.

We can do soul street headers that won't cause a CEL but they're $4135.
