Didn't you just post in another thread that your engine failed and you were going to scrap the car?

Ok, cool, the problem with buying a car with a 2nd gear grind is it could be something as simple as a clutch fluid bleed or as bad as an overhaul and you simply don't know.
One clue is where the clutch engages.....if it's near the floor, you might get away with a bleed and oil change. If the clutch is engaging mid-top range, it's probably the transmission.
The other issue is if it's only the clutch bleed but it's been driven that way for a long time, they could have damaged it beyond what a bleed could fix. (and the clutch issue will usually show up in other gears)
You could ask the owner to have the bleed done and then you'll reconsider. As you're learning, Porsches aren't the most affordable cars to take chances on.

Unless you really enjoy fixing cars, I can't help but feel you're going from one troubled car to another. I had a habit of buying cars with issues for several years because of my own limited "toy car" budget, it always ended with losing money versus just saving more (or finding a more affordable model) and buying a great car from the start. There were always bad surprises lurking on cars with issues.
Have you considered finding a base Cayman with the 2.7 liter engine? Those aren't as likely to self-destruct as your 3.4 did and should come at a more affordable price point. I'm very happy with my base model even after owning more powerful cars.

The repair depends on the exact damage. More often than not, the engagement teeth (dog ring) on second gear needs replacement, which is a machine shop task. I usually find that the 1st/2nd shift sleeve and always the 2nd gear synchro set need replacing.
