5 speed cable info
Hello all, I have a base 2008 Cayman 5 speed. If I change the cables, do I have to change any brackets or pivots? I see that this is definitely necessary for a 6 speed, but it is very unclear to me for a 5 speed.
I have searched this but can't find a definite answer.
Please help

Looking at Suncoast's website, I'd guess you don't need to update since it says 6-speed only and your base model is not listed in the "fits the following models" section. You could give Suncoast (or any Porsche dealer) a call to confirm.

Thank you RJ. I did look at suncoast, and it made me think I just need cables. No bracket or pivot. I just didn't want to start a job, then realize I need more parts.
I would imagine if someone who has been down this road doesn't weigh in soon, I will just call and ask. I figured I would ask here first.

Are you looking to replace the cables preemptively or have an issue with shifting? When I had my 5 speed 987.1 I left the OEM cables alone as I had not heard about cables snapping on those and just replaced the cable ends with function first cable ends for an improved shift feel: https://www.function-first.com/produ...42746783891609

Hi again, I was looking to just replace them due to mileage. I have about 113000 on it now. When I first bought the car, it had the sloppiest shifter I ever felt. I already did install the function first cable ends which changed the feel dramatically. i also installed a numeric shifter which also removed a lot of slop. Now it feels pretty good. Not perfect but good. I just thought mileage was getting high. I also heard the stories of snapping cables, but am starting to think it is mostly 6 speed with the bad bracket geometry?
Anyone have more than 113k on their original 5 speed cables?

The way I checked what I needed for my 987.2 6MT was to download the latest parts diagram from Porsche. I then looked at the cable and it listed what parts were superseded and what parts where compatible.
If you're going aftermarket I would contact that vendor/manufacturer.
