Default Do you like your Tiptronic?

Thinking of getting a DD 987S and wondering how the TIP is.

Thanks!

Did I open a can of worms?

I tried a search on tiptronic but didn't find too much about how well it works day to day.

It's a very sensitive subject.
Love or hate kind of thing. Lots of heated debates.
About equivalent to the Corvette vs. Porsche debate.

I was hoping the title of the post would get replies from people who own or owned tiptronics and not start a debate of whether or not it's better then a manual.

I guess we'll see what boils up to the surface.

regretful low-end response and shift-points in auto-drive.
you have to drive one and make your own mind up.

Drive it in manual mode! Otherwise, like the person said, "regretful low-end response". The damn thing is in too high a gear most of the time. To the idiot who programmed this transmission - just how much torque does this engine have at 1500 rpm? Enough to actually accelerate in 5th gear? Oh, you just used the program from the 997 turbo. Nice work.

I agree with the previous posts. It will quickly get up to 5th gear at about 40mph on a straight road. Manual mode is better, however i think that's in order to minimize gas consumption. Overall I'm very happy. I commute the bay bridge everyday, so i can NOT handle clutching and shifting every 10 seconds during a 1 hour commute. That was the primary reason for me to choose automatic, and i never regret.
On the other hand, if it's your weekend car, that's another story.
Hope it helps.

I'm with the others in a Cayenne Tip. I would get another tip for a daily driver, but not for a purely weekend car. Drive in manual mode or in Sport mode and it's a lot more fun
