Default New 09 CS owner, but where is the enthusiasm?

Wow, as an 8+ Porsche owner over many many years Rennlist has always been THE place to come to for learning about a car, mod challenges and track setups. Period.

While not finding a Boxster or Cayman particularly "pretty" I've been increasingly impressed by them on the track, so decided to buy a PDK 09 which will eventually end up as a track only toy.

Have not put this thing on the track yet but so far I am really impressed, tons of fun and PDK is all grins and way better than the e92 DSG M3 I traded for it.

Just weird that there does not seem to be a whole lot of love for these things here, and the best recent advise so far has been a link to a different site.

So no real point to this post other than to say that an 09 PDK CS is a better car than most think and after some minor mods look for me in your rearview mirror at the track?

No argument. The new CS is an outstanding performer and with PDK, even moreso. Congrats!

This board was killed before it could even get off the ground back in late 2005 when many (including me) were looking for information and discussions about the Cayman S. We found it at that other site, but not here.

Back in 1/07 I posted: What I don't get is why so many Rennlisters (mostly 964 or 993 owners) seem drawn to come to this Cayman board to bash the car. IMO all it's done is driven a new generation of P car owners elsewhere. As a long time Rennlister (well before this site) that saddens me.

Dead then and dead now. RIP

Enjoy your CS and drop by the other place if you're hungry for information and enthusiasm bordering on mania.

cayman info on caymanclub.net
those who refuse to acknowledge the positive traits of cayman or boxster generally are not very secure about their manhood imo.

Yeah unfortunately there was a lot of hostility toward the Cayman when it was introduced, on this site, and others. The "other" site has successfully tapped the enthusiasm for the Cayman and you will find everything you are looking for there. The Cayman is a superb sports car and Porsche got it right.

I gladly traded in my 2002 Turbo for a 2009 CS. The CS is just more of a sports car. Less power and more fun. Enjoy your purchase.

I've owned my '09' CS with PDK for about a month now and it is a ball on the track. Put it in Sport Plus brake, turn and leave the rest to the PDK.

That is what I keep hearing - I'm not entirely sure I would trust it to be in the right gear at the right time and worst not surprise me with a shift when I have a lateral load and not expecting one.

But it will be fun giving it a try, can't wait!

RQ-GT3,
My C4S is my daily driver. My GT3 RS is my track toy. I tried my bone stock 4S with PDK on the track. I was astonished at how well it went and this comparing with a well sorted GT3.

Do not fear an upshift during high load cornering. It will and the car will remain perfectly stable. PDK does not (according the the manufacturers literature) interrupt torque. I'm not sure about that but I can say that in a 100 MPH sweeper mine upshifts from 3rd to 4th while the car is tracking out with no ill effects whatsoever. On my home track, there is only one place (esses) where I would use 2nd gear that PDK in Sport plus mode used 3rd instead. Remarkable. Shifting with the paddles produces the same result, feel free to upshift or even downshift with lateral loads and the car remains stable. Enjoy!

Bob,

Your experience parallels mine on track. My CS w/PDK made a few shifts mid turn and there were no problems.

Great to hear, thanks!

I happen to be going to a PCA event this Saturday (with my track-only Lotus) but just got an OK from our friendly rep to take a second car and drive my new toy as well - a few laps will help me get a baseline, crap tires stock brake fluid and all. I will definitely try the auto mode and hang on see what happens.

Separately, curious with anyone with this setup that has done Sebring, on Auto what is the tranny doing on turn 17? Also on Homestead 6-7?
