Default Finally got my Boxster S home!!

Finally picked up my Speed Yellow 2008 Boxster S this week. I took a few days off from work, got 2 one-way tickets to NJ with my fiancee and drove the car 1300 miles back to South Florida. The car had 40 miles, so the drive back offered a good opportunity to break in the motor - only 600 more miles to go.

First day took us from NJ to Chesapeak, VA. I was hoping to see the sunset over the Chesapeak Bridge/Tunnel, but a delayed start in NJ (re-doing paper work @ dealer, lunch @ Cheeburger and painter tape).

The 1st leg was pretty un-eventful - took time to feel how the car drives. Aside from 30min of downpour before we got to the Chesapeake Bridge, and painters tape flapping and flying off... everything worked out well. Car ran really quiet with the top up. The 2nd day took us to Savannah, GA, and finally got to South Florida on the 3rd day - hitting the first 1000 mile mark just before leaving Georiga.

Not wanting to risk rock/paint chips, I took the car the next day to get clear bra and tint. I also got the 3M Crystalline tint on the front windshield to keep the heat down off the windscreen. The tint (70%) is nearly transparent when viewed from inside or out. The tail lights also received tint treatment... what do you guys think? I also took sunday to desnorkle and replaced the titanium-colored side vents with black one.

I did find a problem with the car... the radio (CDR-24) got stuck on a specific FM station for a day, and now it's dead - won't power on at all. I guess this is a fairly common problem? Looks like I need to make an appointment with the dealer in the morning.

Congrats on the new car. Great color. What kind of a deal did you get off MSRP (%) on a 2008??

This was 30% off MSRP. If you look on ebay and cars.com, most 2008s demo's through dealers are listing for 15% off (low to mid $50's). Occassionally, you'll find a couple of cars listing for ~26%... there was a Limited Edition S (CPO'ed) in MA for ~$48's with ~5000 miles. I was asking for 10% off and all dealers pretty much countered with 5% off and no more. I guess as much as sales has slowed to a standstill, dealers are still not ready to drop their pants -. When I picked up my car last week (mid day, mid week), the dealer signed 2 deals while I was waiting for my car.

Thanks DL & NoH2O! This was too good to pass up - the bank also gave me a new car rate on the loan because the car was never titled. So, a pretty sweet deal overall.

Lithium, does the 4-year warranty start the day you took delivery too? Or did it start back in 2008??

Yes, it was punched back in 2008. I weighed the trade-off of price vs. remaining warranty (~30 months left), and didn't want to pay a couple more thousands to CPO.

You might want to re-think this. Do you own or lease? Will you keep it beyond the warranty period? If one could get this car CPO'd for the dealership's cost (about $2K) I'd recommend it (for the long term owner).

I'm not a huge fan of extended warranties, but Porsche's is pretty good. Highly accepted and pretty inclusive. Now a 3rd party warranty for +$4K I'd skip.

I wonder if you had a change of heart, if you could still get a CPO within say 30 days of purchase?

I do plan on keeping this long term - I try to take very good care of my cars... I still have and drive my yellow '98 A4 and still get compliments on the road. I wonder who would I check with on this CPO after purchase, if that's even possible? The service guys or sales guys?

I'd ask the sales guy who you purchased from, first. Then try the service guys you have a current relationship at the Porsche dealership in your home State. Between these two, you should be able to gain an understanding and potential next steps. GL.

Thanks Joe! I have only seen a handful of other A4s in either brilliant yellow - think they only made them for 3 years. Even the pelican blue A4s are not very common. The B5s are great cars.... I used to track the A4 (Watkins Glen, Lime Rock and Mt Tremblant), but it's pretty much retired now as a daily driver. I do plan to track the 987 when winter (here in S.FL) comes around.

Hey Chump, interesting to see you here of all places...I'm like, "this guy looks familiar"... Congrats on the new toy!

Dude, that is like a seriously great deal. Dunno about about the blacked out rear tail lights though... On that note, I have the "clear" euro side marker lenses. The dealer thought he was doing me a favor my installing it. I was livid. I wanted the "yellow" standard ones. If you want it, the wife says $30. She likes your car, too! You need more pics of the interior though.

Great buy! I think you got the best deal that I have ever seen...
