Does the 2009 Cayman have an IMS problem?
I am very curious if the 2009 (base) Cayman 987 has
the dreaded IMS problem fixed or dealt with in some
way? I heard the 2010 997 Carrera with DFI doesn't
use an IMS like the Turbos have for some time. I had
heard of a double bearing update on some engines,
but I'm not sure the new Caymans have this or not. LN
Engineering doesn't seem to address the IMS as a
serious problem on any thing other than the on the
986/996 engines.

The 09 Cayman uses the new 9A1 engine which among other improvements, has no IMS at all. No shaft, no bearing - and so far no hassles. Fuel economy is astonishing with the DFI engine.

I thought I'd heard something like that.
Really glad to hear it though! I believe
the DFI really helps the fuel consumption
at low RPMs. This is evident by the larger
torque output of the DFI engine compared
to normal FI. This is more than would be
expected by the 0.5L engine size jump.
Thanks!

P.S.:
My wife is interested in a used 911, probably a 2002-03 996.
I am concerned about IMS issues on 996s and wondered what
an LN Engineering IMS bearing upgrade costs with installation
@ about $100/hr. labor?
Anyone...
