Default Looking to buy first Boxster S

Hi there. I'm new to the forum and really appreciate all the great information here. Looking to purchase my first Boxster S so I've been watching the used market here in the Bay Area for a few weeks now.

I've finally come across a car that has a lot of what I'm looking for with low mileage. I drove it today. Very nice. See below:

http://www.sonnenporsche.com/detail-...d-8088713.html

I'd like to make an offer but would love some opinions on pricing given the specs. Any additional thoughts/guidance is welcome as well.

Much appreciated!

Given that it's a CPO car, the pricing looks more or less in line with the market. I would offer $35k and expect to end up around $36,000-36,500.

Nice. Cocoa full leather is awesome.

Ask the dealership for a complete DME report, and review the range 1-6 over-revs. Report back here. If the report looks good (NO over-revs in range 3-6) then proceed with your purchase process, including a PPI with an unbiased 3rd party.

CPO is nice, too.

They should provide the DME report for free. It will be several pages long. If they won't provide it, run, don't walk away.

What welles and No H Two O said. Link below is just for comparison in your area. If the one you posted has the CPO included in price, I would go for what welles suggested. Good luck and welcome. Picks and story when you pull the trigger plse.

Really appreciate the advice. I'll go ahead and request the report. One quick question. What does DME stand for?.

More to come!

The DME is like what other car companies call the ECU (for the Engine Control Unit). DME= Digital Motor Electronics

Let's face it, buying any used car is always a risk and buying a used sports car doubles the risk. As No HTwo O suggested, getting an over rev report is critical. What they will show are the over-revs in various categories in ignition firings which means that the numbers will be high, so don't be concerned if you see a few thousand ignitions in range 1 because all it means is that the rev limiter was activated and no damage is likely. My recollection is that range 4 or higher is likely to cause damage, and they can occur on downshifts if the driver inadvertently selects the wrong gear. I definately wouldn't buy a used Sports car without seeing an over-rev report.

A far as price is concerned , it wuld be on the high side for my area where 07Boxster Ss sell in the low $30Ks.

Can you provide examples? I'm assuming they are higher mileage cars. I just did a nationwide search on AutoTrader for '07s with manual transmissions and under 30k miles. I didn't find any S models under $36k, and those weren't CPO.

Just a little FYI: the car doesn't have Xenons. It makes a pretty big difference in terms of looks and actual visibility at night.

It's not worth that much as an option but you can use it as a bargaining tool.

Like, Welles I havent seen any low mileage '07 S models in the low $30s in the Bay Area. There is an '06 S listed at $34k. See here: http://fiskersiliconvalley2011.vinma...spx?ID=8512943.

Do you all agree that the difference in HP between the '06 and '07 is noticeable?

The dealer is pulling the DME on the '07 so once I have it I'll post it for thoughts!

Much appreciated!

A 2006 Boxster S have 280 HP

A 2007 Boxster S has 295 HP

If you can tell the difference, you are a better man/woman than I am. Or Patrick Long.

My car has 283 HP because I have removed the airbag warning stickers, and it has PSE.

My sample size is only one car in MD. It was a modestly equipped S with a little over 24K miles. The car sold in early December and I was told by my friend that he paid $34K. It was a CPO car and I believe the asking price was $37,500. I would expect that roadsters sell for less in the northeast in the winter than on the west coast, and the Dealer was probably anxious to move the car before the first snow.

The car I included in my earlier post sold as I was getting the DME report. After a few weeks of looking for another good one, I finally found a private sale. Looking at it tomorrow and then getting the PPI on Monday.

Other than the DME and the standard PPI list, are there any additional issues I should ask the technicians to look for?

Thanks in advance!

How are the current owner's service history and documents? Oil changes and maintenance records? When was the brake fluid flushed last? Were plugs changed?

Maybe consider an oil filter dissection when doing the PPI. This will just cost a filter ($20ish) and top off the oil a little.
