Is the 987 the last REAL Porsche?
I look at Porsche's trajectory with increasing concerns. A desire to move mainstream, to appeal to a wider variety of sportscar owners, and a decrease in feeling and soul.
I am not saying that I am faulting them for making this change, they are a company that needs to make profit...

Thats like saying the real Ford Mustangs are the ones with live rear axles.... Porsche needs to change and innovate not make the same car they were making 10 years ago.... Although I do feel like the 981 is a new 911 (as far as size and performance) and the 991s are moving up in size and luxury to compete with AM V8s, Jag XK-R, etc.... Grand Tourers...

However.....
Push button e-brakes, electronically assisted steering, push-button start should never be on a Porsche. Ever.
Oh, and for the 911 and Boxster/Cayman ranges, standard shift should always be an option.
Anyone who argues these points should buy an Audi....oh wait a minute....

Bottom line is that everybody has their own opinion of what a sports car is, and what a Porsche should be. There is no question that the 911 has continued to be refined; at what point it is too refined is obviously a matter of debate.
For those who think that point is behind us, the common response is "get a GT3 or GT3RS". The problems with that is (1) you get a lot of wings and graphics along with more power, less sound deadening, stiffer suspension/gearbox/etc. And (2) all signs point to the next GT3 being further refined, with the 981/991 platform clearly optimized for all of the electronic gimmicks that, while making for a faster car, allow for a less talented driver. And that, ultimately, is what has been lost with the mainstream 911 models.
