Great forum, and this is my first thread..

I have come across a pair of original 987 S exhausts..

I want to open them op and make the system louder... But does anyone what what to remove??

Found the attached pictures of a dissected exhaust, but what is the next step??

Any ideas greatly appreciated..

Anyway, what I am going for here is not a LOUD system, but more like the one Remus builds for the 987, bit deeper tone, more throaty.. the way the system was meant to sound from the beginning..

I agree, more/better sound is called for! Can't help with the guts of the pipes as I just went for the tubi system. Good luck and enjoy YOUR car to the fullest.

Grumpy old guys...seems to be par for the course over here at Porsche. The brand needs some youthful enthusiasm. I for one am subscribed to this thread, as I agree the stock exhaust sounds like a sewing machine and I'm interested in ways to enhance the sound without drone

Well, the deal is this.. I actually bought a original system that was in fact opened up and have had something removed. I can see where they have takeen it apart ect, but I cant see what they have done.. BUT, the car now sounds awesome, no drone, deeper and more throaty... soooo, since I now have a set over, I wanna do the same, and give it to a friend of mine..

So, to sum up... same noise at idle, or even when you run at constant revs, but significantly improved sound when accelerating.. swear that it is just how is sounded at the Porsche factory, before some old bloke in the upper management said that is sound too good..

hmmm, according to Fabspeed.. second cat is not needed... wonder if that is in fact correct..? What about the MOT ect...?

I had the Fabspeed Race system on my car until today. No issues whatsoever without the secondary cats.

There are no secondary cats in the 987.2s. They only exist in the 987.1s.
Despite what many vendors advertise, an aftermarket exhaust on a 987.2 does not remove a secondary cat. This is the reason why 987.2 exhausts are not as loud as 987.1s

Carnewal does a mod similar to what you describe, though I don't remember where I read that.

This is great news, if true. Is there a website somewhere which details Porsche exhaust parts with cat locations? For Bimmers, I use realoem.com ... Invaluable resource.

Thanks joe! It doesn't explicitly state where the cats are - just the sensors. If there were a secondary set, they would be at the front end of the mufflers (which is where they are on the 987). How do you know the 987.2 does not have them? I really hope you're right...would just like to see some proof (without cutting my exhaust open)
