Center Console Color

I have a 07 Cayman with gray interior and the center console where the radio sits, is a silver grey color. I have seen base and S models silver, but some are black. Any experts out there who know why?

2006-2008 987.1 had volcano grey trim. 2009-2012 987.2 had black. I definitely prefer black...
