Default Need advice on this '11 S from the Pros'

Ok I admit it..I've been lurking off site for quite some time. I'm on a serious quest for a DFI Cayman. I finally signed up today. AND am humbled by some great Porsche minds on Renn'. I've lusted after a CAYMAN since they came to the states. I ALWAYS thought they were a better looking car than the 911. No question the Cayman is one sexy little baby..to me at least

Anyway I found an '11, Guards Red, 6 speed, Nav, Limited slip, 19's with just 900 miles. $52K (the car is fairly close...80 miles)

Deal or No Deal? After so many days..months perusing ads it appears to be a decent deal. 900 miles> it should drive like a NEW car or very very close to it. I plan to toss out an offer..maybe 48k. I think that might be a pretty good deal if it gets done

2 pics..that's all he would send me but I think they tell the story. Thanks for your help

Looks like a nice car. The only concern I'd have is the low miles. Roughly 225 miles a year isn't much use. IMO, a car should be driven at least 1K miles a year on average to keep everything in good working order. I'm not saying the car is no good or will be problematic, but it is something worth considering. If there's no remaining warranty, I would work at least a year of Porsche extended warranty into the deal in case any bugs need shaking out. Good luck.

Looks nice. Test drive and the normal due diligence- has all maintenance service been done on time vs mileage- annual oil change, brake flush at 2 yrs, etc. if not then price should be discounted. Check carfax for any accident history. Get a PPI to check under the car, signs of crash damage etc. unless you feel you're qualified to do yourself. Best of luck hope it works out. These are great cars.

Are you hell bent on getting a low mile car? This is pretty obvious, but a better deal can probably be had on a higher mile car with CPO warranty. That's probably where I would start looking if I were to do it again.

thanks guys. this one stood out for sure. I also think a car 'needs' to be driven... but heck 900 miles! That's sorta like marrying a virgin...for 2/3 the normal price$

Really any reasonable miles and I'll be happy. AND yes CPO plus a good service history is really what it's all about.

I'm curious to find out WHY this car didn't move much. My first thought would be some kind of illness. Something kept the owner from not driving it.

I've yet to speak to the owner. He hasn't returned my call and to give me an opportunity to find out the real story

Before driving down there maybe he could send you a full set of around the clock photos of the car? I would also try to find out if when the car was driven however infrequently, if it was driven a number of miles to warm up the oil completely, etc. 225 miles a year is not a lot but I would rather it been driven 6 50 mile trips rather than 10 12 mile trips....
If it has been maintained by a dealer or good reputable shop the records also should be available.
Some people just can't drive their cars as much as they would like. I lived in New Guinea for 14 months and my 944T did not get driven as much as I would have liked....
The car does look NICE!

We talked earlier today. He wants me to come see/drive the car. Nice guy...BILL. He says he has waaay too many cars and needs to thin the pack. One is a GT3. It figures he's got some sweet rides if the CAYMAN is the one on the chopping block.

As far as keeping the car in running 'order' apparently he'd start and drive the car 'regularly'. Also it just completed a full inspection at a shop. Not sure what shop but that's what he said. I asked if it was Porsche CPO and he said NO. In his own words the car is 'spotless'. Not a spec of dust anywhere..no marks in the paint whatsoever. Just MINT. Also he says he is not that flexible with the price whatever that means. Give it a month and I'll bet he turns into gumby' and bends closer to 45 or 46

Also it now has 1200 miles

The car is near CARSON CITY ie 'in the sticks' or as some call it the DESERT

I'm on the fence with this one. I'm leaning more towards a car with conservative miles and a good service history...981 or 987. Dont get me wrong I'd die to own this low mile beauty. BUT for another 10 or 15 I'd could be in 'R' territory or a newer S PDK..

I think the right price range for this car is $46K-$48K. Once you get over $50K, there are other cars to buy. Heck, you can buy a brand new 2015 C7 in the $50s. The big Corvette dealers discount them pretty aggressively.

Here is your car. I think it's on here too, but didn't feel like looking to confirm.

isnt' that the same car?

In the dream my Cayman looks like this>

RS Green/Sand
Boxter/Cayman 'forks for wheels
DFI
PDK
Chrono'
LSD

At least that's how I 'built' it on the website awhile back. A freind and I would mess around at the office just designing P' cars. Good fun and something to shoot for..

I've loved that RS green from way back..like waaay back when I first saw it on a 911. Too far back to admit

My next color choice is WHITE. Summer in a 2 seater can be brutal. White is the obvious choice for those 90+ days. Plus white on a Cayman looks phenomenal imho.

Also I'm so tired of black leather. My last 3 BMW's have had black leather (including my present 330). Oh do I hate black leather! It's gotten to the point of where it's almost a deal breaker

As far as wheels go there will be no 19" wheels in my future. The roads around Tahoe are much too rough. Actually prefer 17's and would be quite happy with them. Heck remember when 17s were considered 'high performance' and a bit radical?

No black wheels either. Not a fan. Give me polished alloy any day. Even white wheels makes more sense to me..

With all that said it looks like Im going to be searching for awhile to tick all those boxes...and at the right price/condition. Mid 30's for price... if I can pull it off..is my initial price point. I'd jump all in at 50 or 60 BUT I just secured a rare 330xi. A car that I've been searching for well over 3 years. AWD is a must here in the high country. A 330xi is my weapon of choice. A modest car but it does' snow like no other
