Battery Charger Issue
#16
So I tried using the 12V outlet in the passenger footwell with my CTEK 7002 and the same thing occured...charging sequence discontinues after or during the "BULK" voltage stage or 2nd charging light. Mine doesn't show any error light/message but all charging lights go off.
I made a direct connection to the battery and it is working perfectly now for two days!
What is it about the 12V outlets that is preventing the use of this CTEK? I'd really prefer the convenience of using the 12V outlet in the cabin.

Agree. Mine worked without issue using the accessory ports last year and now isn't.
I just spoke with tech support at CTEK and they're hypothesizing that when our chargers enter the lower voltage mode after bulk charging the car shuts off the connection to the battery from the accessory port...hence charging ceases.
Oddly my pricey Porsche labeled CTEK charger on my older 997.2 works fine via the accessory port.

Mine too! Porsche is programming our cars remotely. OMG, they may be programming us, too. Maybe that's how they're trying to convince us that the 718 is a better car than the 981 and to buy one!

Update. I am now using the Porsche charger on the 981 via the accessory port and it's been working perfectly for the last 24+ hours. Go figure.
Now I'll try the CTEK 7002 on the 997.2 via it's accessory port and hope for the best.

You guys got me worried after reading this thread... I received a Porsche charger as a gift with purchase. I tried it about three days ago and so far I've had no issues (knock on wood). Maybe it's just issues with the non-Porsche CTEK chargers? I wonder what the differences are besides the obvious visual things.

Both the older Tequipment charger and the new MUS 4.3 CTEK charger give me the flashing warning light after 10 minutes or so when using any of the interior adapters. Charging directly from the battery works great. Pigtails it is.

Yep, error light flashes in both the Porsche Tequipment charger and the new CTEK MUS 4.3. Dealer checked the battery - all is well on that front. For some reason, the interior inputs die after a certain period of time in my car. I've lost patience with trying to get it to work. Since it works fine off the battery, will go that route, since I'll be charging primarily during the winter anyway.

I had this issue the other week for my old Tequipment charger and a new Battery Tender. Figure it is the cigarette lighter port shutting off. Interesting thing is that these same chargers worked fine on numerous 991's and 981's over the last few years.

The cigarette lighter insert has a removable red extension to fit deep well sockets. Do you have that installed as it is out of the box? I've seen this on my 997.2 GT3 get pulled out of socket accidently which stopped charging.
I love my MUS 4.3 and it always keeps my GT3 topped off, looking forward to the GT4 arrival before Independence day and anticipate the same success

Yes, me too. Some similar things going on in the GT4 forum as well. I charge my Spyder off the cigarette lighter with a Porsche-branded charger and have had zero issues. I charged the same way for 9+ years on my 987.1 with a Porsche-branded charger and never had an issue.
I know of the red cap/extender of which you speak, but I had to remove it in order to get the charging insert to fit in the cigarette lighter of my 981 (and I think my 987 as well if I'm remembering correctly).

For those of you having problems check your cigarette lighter opening, mine works and this is what it looks like. If this does not help resolve, then we can look at vin numbers
