981 GT4 vs 991.1 GT3 => which one would you buy used and why?

I found the info about the central wheel lock replacement I was not aware of. So this counts only for the miles driven on track? Does this mean people who don't drive on track don't need to replace them? Any idea about the pricing of these two procedures? Is this correct?
From the research I've been doing, it's around $5k for the smaller service and double for the bigger one.

Hub maintenance is more than a visual inspection. It's a significant amount of work on each hub and a replacement of the center locks themselves. I'd have to go back and look but I think the cost is about $6K per axle. Interval is different for front and rear. I can send more detail if you want. But 6K track miles is a lot - for me that would have been every three years probably.

the cost is around 5k installed for the new rear hubs and the four center lock bolts. There always seems to be some confusion around road miles and track miles - everyone needs to be keeping a log of their track miles so they know when to do the maintenance.

Owned a 991.1 GT3 and got tired of hearing about the engine problems. I traded the GT3 with 12,000 miles for a loaded GT4 with 170 miles and CPO which is now at 16,000 miles. The only thing I miss about the GT3 is the sound on the 7k-9k run.
I've added a set of Dundon headers, TPC's rear toe links and their DSC box to the GT4. With a street/track alignment the car is fun to drive anywhere I go. I am very happy with this car and I've owned it for almost 2 years which is something of a record with me.
There have been a few 991.1 GT3s come up that were attractively priced with low mileage which made me pause and think about getting one again. However, I've decided to stay with the GT4. It's a lot of bang for the buck.

I would say GT3, and I am a die hard manual Luddite, based on performance only. But I am not into the Faux center locks and the equipment and PITA to change tires. So my vote is GT4, I had a Cayman GTS and throughly enjoyed the handling and driving experience, so no Center Locks and Manual Trans makes the GT4 my choice.

^I agree with Peter.... between the two choices above, my first instinct is the GT4. I love the GT4 but the GT3.1 is still a winner so can't really go wrong with either or. Plus it's obvious the GT3 cars are more powerful/faster anyway so that's moot... it's the driver's car experience that has the (underappreciated nowadays?) GT4 still garnering praises. Now if you ask me about GT3.2 vs. the GT4, then I'd pick the GT3.2 all day long... that new 4.0 motorsport spec engine is sublime, pure bliss.

This is how I see the comparison between the two also... My manual M2 is great fun on the road; even at legal speeds. If I did not have this M2 as a daily, but had something normal and less exiting then I would probably buy the GT4 as the second fun/track car...

And I would take a GT4 over any non R or GT 911 any day of the week and 4 times on Sundays.

the other point is with OP dd'ing an M2 the GT4 doesn't really move the goal posts very much in terms of performance. GT3 does.

Drove my buddy's GT4 the other day (he has 3 GT3's as well) and all I have to say is - great car and would be amazing if not corrupted by 911's - it all comes down to motor. Not even in the same ballpark as 3.8 GT3, in a matter of fact my old 991.1 c2s manual felt quicker actually (chassis not as good) so not even a really valid comparison GT3 is in a different league.
