Great info - RSR looks great, feels like Porsche may be running into a purple patch. I really thought they'd end up going the turbo route - nice to be proven wrong.

Forget what I said about Kers/Hybrid... they should be able to get this 4.2L with ITB up in the 550-560hp range with better torque curve for 992.1 until next gen maybe...

I think that must be part of it. But if I'm remembering right, the 996 GT3 had separate exhausts for each bank without a crossover and didn't sound like this...
Maybe the physical separation caused by the car between the two side exhausts has this effect (996 had rear outlets on the corners of the car - far left and right)?
Just saw the Goodwood video. Why would this engine sound like a chainsaw instead of a Porsche racing flat six?

The current RSR doesn’t cross over either; just two long pipes that terminate together.
The new RSR sounds worse because the exhaust exits on the side, so you only hear one in line 3 cylinder engine on either side. There may also be a muffler or resonator in there. Recall that the current car had a different, much quieter exhaust configuration for the first half of 2017, but they changed it because they had a problem with pickup catching on fire, as evidenced by the Silverstone WEC race.
The side exit exhaust has always made the Viper tough to make sound good. As mentioned already, I suspect this is the same issue with sound on the new RSR.

I think the side exhausts on the racing version of the Ferrari 365GTB/4 Daytona sounded great (but I guess a straight six sounds pretty good...)
