Saw this in Monterey- I’m struggling to understand it

I see this as rich people buying an art piece. Hoping it goes up in value or doesn't lose money. Collector, not driver. Of course, if you are rich enough, you can drive and don't care about the value.

I liked that paint combo on the concept car when it had the retro mirrors, center fill gas tank and headlight treatment. I thought those details made it more special. When I heard they were 275K all interest was lost.

Personally - I like it.
If anyone decides they want to straight trade for a touring - LMK.

you didn't get the memo about the gt2rs and speedster both being Porsche's "pricing adventures"?

Porsche keeps giving gifts to their dealer network ( now that the GT hype became short lived) through letting them charge ADMs by adding a $3 number plate to dashboards and creating other little tricks. All are happy, including those that pay to have either a special, limited edition, car or pay to have a sense of having one. Like this, dealers can afford to give huge discounts on those Panameras and Cayennes that sit in the floor for ages.. Free market. I vote with my pocket - none for me.

You know there are people who think buying a $145K MSRP Porsche GT car, ($165-170K w/option + $15K ADM), is equally a waste and doesn't make sense. At the other end of the scale, there are people who flip $350 million yachts just so they can add 20ft and claim the 'longest' ship in the world. What is most certainly a waste of time, is speculating about how people chose to spend their hard-earned (or easy earned) money...LOL I wouldn't pay $500K for the Speedster but, frankly, I'm not the demographic Porsche is marketing this car to.

Agree...I am always amazed when people criticize that they make too many variants of a given car...different strokes...if you don't want one, don't buy one. Pretty easy. Porsche are betting that there are 1,948 people who do in fact want one. We shall see.

I personally like it. But agree that its not a $500K car or even a $300K car - to me. Problem solved for me - i wont buy it. But hey its cool to look at and read about. And i am a drop top guy.
People that will buy it are dyed in the wool Porsche nuts with significant $$ (f/u cash, 918VIP's, etc...) that will spend months worrying about customizing the spec (PTS colors and deviated stitching etc..) to the nth degree so that its "awesome" and then they will truly have a unicorn. And trust me there are 1,948 of them out there. So it will be a success and it will make those 1948 people happy - so all good.
