Default Motor Trend COTY *spoilers*

While the cars which came in in positions 10 through 3 were interesting, the one that came in at number 1 spot is especially relevant for this group....

The 992 was basically known to the be winner all through the test.. and what's very very cool, is that the only small flaws they found in it, are attributes which will all be fixed in the 992 GT3:

Is the 992 perfect? Not entirely. The flat-six's engine note is, well, a bit flat. The stubby gearshift feels more suited to gaming. Certain interior bits carry a cost-down feel. And the piano-black center console reflects sunlight harshly. Just remember, this is all part of the progression of Porsche's soul.
A car that allows any driver to comfortably and confidently approach their own limits and invites them to explore the edges of its dynamic envelope is the very definition of a MotorTrend Best Driver's Car. Such is the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S.

Not to be pedantic, but it's actually Best Driver's Car.

The 992 is definitely NOT Car of the Year.

Car of the Year belongs to the Buick Lucerne.

If were being honest, you can look at that list and know immediately no other car was going to win.

The Supra is the only other car that comes relatively close to being a dedicated sports car, and the Senna is well something else completely.

They should have included a Lotus, a Miata, a 718, a C7 Vette, etc. if they wanted this test to actually be a test.

Supra coming in last should be a wakeup call to Toyota/BMW that you cannot just mail it in like that after taking a decade to develop a car and come out with such a mediocre effort.. then hope to be competitive in today's market

One would have to assume they were never intending for the Supra/Z4 to be taken seriously by the enthusiast community. Otherwise they wouldn't have launched it with that transmission and engine, along with such questionable dynamics.

More than likely they designed the platform to go after... the typical Z4 buyer.

I guess so, but that is a pretty slow selling model.

The sad thing as relates to BMW is that they didn't just mail it in, but in fact put in their absolute effort; an easy conclusion based on their recent offerings.....

I think Toyota have completely lost their way. How that Supra even made it past the “are you out of your mind” stage is really beyond me. It just shows that the Japanese do not understand the market today. I see a lot of mistakes on our LX570 so something is going wrong with that company.

In many ways, their collaboration with Subaru (GT86) is more successful than their work with BMW (Supra)...

What is so bad about the Supra? I haven't really followed it. I know it isn't a Toyota, it has Japanese styling which might not be everyone's taste, but the few things I've seen written haven't been too critical. This thread makes it out to be a disaster. Again, I don't have much upon which to form an opinion, so curious what the big issues are.

When you consider that it took them over a decade, and apparently quite a few do overs for it to come to market, One would've expected something really groundbreaking as a follow-up to such an iconic nameplate. For example, significantly lighter construction, or more power, or handling which was more calibrated to the sporty side of things instead of the conservative side...

I'm not even talking about styling as that is highly and I happen to think it's not that bad... But when a car like this comes in dead last in a comparison... Then that really speaks for itself
