Default Any experience with Chicago Motor Cars?

Looking for any reviews/experience of this company. There seems to have happened some sort of lawsuit 7 years ago where a customer won but nothing concrete since then. Appreciate any feedback as I’m considering doing business with them.

Almost bought a gt3 from them. Sales guy said car was great had a new warranty. Did my own car fax, saw they bought it at auction it was 2 years old with a new in service warranty. It was a track car from a porsche school.... So was the sales guy being honest? I passed on the car after having a porsche dealer confirm where the vin originated from.

What does it mean your own carfax? How did you find out about the car? What are the warning signs?

They've had a horrible reputation and storied past for many years. Proceed with caution.

I was waiting on a carfax, they gave me an auto check. So I ran my own carfax, I also called a porsche dealer and asked them to run the build sheet which also shows who ordered the car.

Thanks. If anyone can post links to a thread or a concrete evidence, I would appreciate it. I am looking to buy a GT3RS from them.

Of the 4 threads you posted, 3 of them have a 99% overlap in that they all refer to that chicagomotorcarssuck website, which is written by a person 7 years ago pertaining a lawsuit on a few purchases.

The other one is of someone who sold his 911R but didnt do a good job negotiating, thought he was selling to a person but not a dealer, dealer buys it low and sells it high. Thats more like someone butt hurt.

Besides that one incident 7 years ago, I am unable to come up with any legitimate negative reviews such as:

- Car advertised mint but arrived with scratches or damage
- Car advertised to arrive in 2 days, took 1 month
- Car advertised to be a non track car with clear track use

Etc

According to Google, their reviews appear to be fine. You're buying a relatively new car and if you are willing to get a PPI on it, then just be sure everything checks out and go through with the purchase.

When I am sending someone money for a car or anything more than about $100, I need to make sure it is legit and that who I am buying from has integrity.

The car I am getting is 1800 miles, 2 year warranty left. Why would I need PPI?

I bet when you ask to do a PPI (and you MUST do) they will:

1) go dark on you
2) tell you the car is now 'sold'
3) just tell you no beuno, no can-do

They probably won't let the car leave the premise. Good luck to you, and I hope everything works out for you. Either this one, or another future one.

You're buying a $200k car from someone that you have never worked with in the past. I would want to make sure the car was not peppered with rock chips, the first 2k miles were not all on track, the ceramics do not have a chip on them, etc. It is up to you. Car is probably fine but at least paying $50 to a Rennlist member to make sure it looks good would be worth it to me.

I looked at the Carfax, car was sold in November 2019, then put up for sale again in December 2019, had CPO, then sold at auction in February 2020. Some people do keep cars one month and then sell, but I would want to know why they CPO'd it and then sent it to auction after 2 months.

You have some pretty savvy dudes here trying to give you advice, but you seem intent on proceeding.

Carry on.
