Weissach vs. non-Weissach .2 3RS driving feel?
Fellow Rennlisters,
This weekend turned into a highlight of my memorable automotive experiences. Had the opportunity to drive a manual 991.2 GT3, followed by a McLaren 720s, and crowned by a 991.2 GT3RS Weissach pack.
I had long viewed the 720s as my ultimate exotic car goal, and it truly was incredible, comfortable, poised, and shockingly fast.
Given that experience prior to driving the GT3RS I was a bit worried that the RS, the car I'm currently in the market for, would be underwhelming, given that the manual GT3 felt like an excellent, albeit “normal” feeling performance car. I couldn’t have been more wrong! Both my wife and I were amazed at how visceral and exciting the RS was! It was a physical experience, an assault on the senses in the best way, and the best car I’ve ever driven. I’m definitely going for an RS, after only a few pulls I was convinced.
My question is, for those who have driven both Weissach and non-Weissach cars, is that buzzing, rattley, tingly vibe the same? I wouldn’t imagine a few carbon components could make too much of a difference but I started the day thinking the GT3 and RS would be nearly indistinguishable haha.
Any feedback is most appreciated, thanks all!

I had a Weissach car and drove a non Weissach and was very hard pressed to notice any significant difference. Maybe a bit at turn in but that's probably my own bias owning a Weissach. The weights of the 2 depending on options are not going to be that far off for cars that weigh 3200-3300 pounds. The GT2RS on the otherhand.....

Appreciate the feedback all! Agreed on the cost not being worth it when speccing new but now second hand the difference is not that much.
To me the WP ups the cool factor but is not a must have, unless it was key to the amazing driving feel I experienced, which is not the case from what I’m
hearing.
Here’s to the search!

Glad you are getting to drive some great cars. I'm also considering adding a 991.1RS or 991.2 RS (WS vs. non-WS). This will be 50:50 Street/Track for me. If you liked the drive in the RS, you should stop by a McLaren dealership and drive the 600LT. The 600LT feels more engaging like the 3RS (although still plenty of differences) compared to driving experience of the 720S.

dmac,
I really love McLaren’s design, performance, and image but the significantly higher ownership costs paired with the more exciting drive of the 3RS (to me) pretty much decided for me. A friend of mine had the 600lt and it’s crazy fast but the turbo motors don’t give me the spine tingle of the 3RS. This will be exclusively a street car so outright speed was less of a factor. That’s the beauty of so many incredible choices these days, there is the perfect choice no matter what you’re after! Would definitely like to have a 600lt/720s but as a 2nd or 3rd exotic. Only being able to swing one, so far, 3RS is in first place by a mile. Always interested to hear other’s experiences as they could help me decide otherwise so I appreciate it!

675LT is one of the best cars I've ever driven really great car for the track, never driven a 600LT but Mclaren is making some great cars. If I went Turbo it would be the GT2RS just an amazing machine and relatively bulletproof. Hard to get used to the low rev limit but that torque is just intoxicating.

Dundon street headers and crack pipe are my exhaust goals once I get the car for sure. What an epic garage! If you’re in Northern California would love to hear it.

OP - I'm not surprised by your reaction to driving the RS. It does the same for me, which is why I am keeping it. It's easy to get caught up in reviews, opinions, influencers, etc. At the end of the day, it only matters how you experience it and that's it. And it's a huge bonus if your wife likes it!
Regarding WP, the core track focused users can find benefits. If it were me it comes down to this, do I like the look of exposed carbon or not.
Good luck!

Gotcha, ya it will be a street car so down to aesthetics it is, I just couldn’t believe how different the RS felt to the GT3 so didn’t want to make any assumptions about the WP
