991.2 GT3 - P dealer's won't negotiate?
Hello all,
I have a question that my friend wanted to run by you. He's in the market for a .2 GT3 6 speed manual fully loaded and made offers on a few for sale by Porsche dealers. They are all 2018 very low mileage (<2k) mile cars with build sheets between $170-180k. He offered around 10k below asking price which he thought is reasonable but so far each dealer told him to get lost and said sales prices are already competitive, it's a rare low mileage car, etc, etc. Are his offers unrealistic or are the dealers he is working with just being snobby? He said for all other exotics he has dealers were happy to work out a deal. Any thoughts? Thanks

Your friends going to have a hard time finding a “deal” right now. I looked for months recently. The cars that came and were priced well sold right away. Most of the 60+ .2’s have ****ty packages or a horrible color. The white/chalks with the right packages and price sell right away.

Is a digital world people and dealers price their cars very competitive these days and usually not off much base on mkt value.... They will not stay in biz long if asking price $10k more than other dealers. Everything has gone up from food to bicycle to cars,inventory is short . I know cuz i buy cars for my dealership every week. We dealers know what they are worth and no reason to ***** cars out if we know we can get more $ than what you offered. Happy shopping people.

It is the infinite push and pull of buying a car. Seller and buyer essentially want the same thing just on opposite sides. Best advice I could give is to define a budget and pull the trigger on the perfect spec when you find one in that price range..If price is a sticking point, e.g. buyer won't spend above 160k and there isn't any dealer at that price point on the desired spec then you wait. These cars come and go and come up for sale all the time. Certainly as a buyer narrows the search criteria the market can tighten up, but that's how it always works. It often costs more to get exactly what you want when you want it. If timing isn't an issue, patience and persistence in the search should pay off eventually.

If two dealers bought identical car at auction or porsche's sale - no way in hell asking price $10k apart from one dealer to other. They let you walk usually tell you your offer is way out in left field somewhere. We are there to sell cars not blow people out of showroom.

Interest rates are at an all time low....thus floor plans are at an all time low....dealers will wait for the right buyer...your friend was to lucky get a return email with a $10K below ask offer....

Is the car CPO? If so its value, or perceived value, is more for some buyers. Also, maybe your friend is looking at the wrong product. Some cars hold higher values, and some are hard to get, so go shopping for a 458 specially and you will see. Best practice is to find the price you are willing to pay , and go find a car that matches his budget. The boat market is an example of crazy, cant buy a boat, pricing is extremely high at the moment, looks like car pricing is heading that way too!

I bought a manual recently. I was focusing on two cars, both PTS color, both manual, both 3k miles. One car was $193 MSRP and P dealer had is listed 20+ off, the other car was $180 MSRP and dealer listed about 6k off. Both cars were fine for me, i slightly preferred the 180 interior spec, slightly preferred the 193 PTS color, and I believe the 193 car is a spec that is more desirable overall to most people. Dealer on 180 car would not budge, not on sale price on car and also not flexible on trade in deal. So, both cars in the same ballpark in terms of asking price, but not so much relative to MSRP, and the 193 car dealer made a MUCH MUCH better overall deal in terms of trade in value, shipping, etc. Actually, they paid for transport BOTH ways, delivery of new car and pick up of my trade in, and $15k higher on the trade in value. They had the car in my garage 4 days after virtual handshake, and about 24 hours after they sent a notary to my house, paid for by them, to sign the docs. The 180 MSRP car is still for sale. In my search, I saw other cars <5k miles listed at 20 off, but most were around 10 off, some at or over MSRP. Pricing is all over the place, which is true of the RS market right now as well.

Every used car is different.One may have flaw or paint work etc. If both are identical spec/options and both are turn key ready then both should be priced similar unless one is an (AGED) unit.

I am of the opinion that if you have $150k+ for a car and it is the "perfect" spec, just pay whatever it costs to get the deal done. $5-10k isn't going to change your life if you can afford a $150k car. Better to get the one you really want than the best "deal" that you might regret later. The good examples with desirable builds move fast.

everyones different in their finances. For me its not so much about the money. its about the dealer price gouging. We know the dealers are factoring their own cut into the deal after lowballing someone on trade in. they are basically flippers on used GT cars, that's their job.
I'm still hunting for a .2 manual. When the perfect chalk, lwb, pccb, fal, carbon trim, black wheels car comes along i'll be happy to pay for it. but no more than 10-15k below sticker.
