I feel it is rather ridiculous that I should have to put my neck on the line waiting for the car to self-identify a failure.

Anyone know how the engine “knows” it has a misfire? Would this require such extensive valvetrain wear that there should be other methods (such as oil analysis) that would give an earlier indication?
That is insanely loud. I can’t believe the dealer thinks that is in any way normal. Hopefully the letter will help. Definitely attach the video.

The dealer freely admits it’s very loud, though didn’t go so far as to say it definitely indicated a problem (even though I told them the noise is new). They said they’d be happy to install a new motor, but needed to follow a sequence, starting with throwing codes. They won’t proceed based on the current symptoms. I tried a difference approach asking them if they would mention this symptom if it were on a car that they were doing a PPI on, and they said probably not! I could take it to another dealer, but I’ve already spent almost $1k on the limited diagnoses already performed. It also takes weeks to get appointments around here.

Does the 10 year extended warranty apply to the original owner only or does it transfer with the car itself?

Ten years from in-service date, regardless of ownership.

I’m on 32k with 5 Track Days and still no issues besides a misfire on Cyl #2 at 28k. I have a 15 with a F Series engine.

Just picked mine up yesterday with a brand new motor! Also found my engine mounts have failed, those mounts are not cheap!

Now on to break in, the car feels wonderful, and the new engine is so much quieter than the old. This make me wonder when you start to hear a lot of valve noise, your engine is about to south.

My car was making very loud ticking/knocking noises, but not throwing any codes, even on the racetrack. Long story short we pulled the motor and indeed found substantial cam damage and I'll shortly be getting a new motor, much to my relief, as I would have been on the hook for several thousand dollars of labor if no warrantable damage was found. About 37k miles and 45 track days.

what made you ask them to open it?

im having some noises but from what it sounds like you need the codes before they will really do anything so I’m sitting tight and waiting for it to throw a code. These cars are also noisy as hell so who knows what I’m hearing…

Is there any data on same engine failures in the follow-on replacements?
