Instrument gauge dial color change...
#31
In receiving the black dials from Rgwirtz's most gracious generosity, I realize now that they are mostly - but not fully - correct for my 2018 GT3 (my speedo reads to 250MPH, these go to 220MPH, plus a few icon/symbol differences). So, I'm happy to pass them on for what he charged me - just kidding - FREE, FREE, FREE. As another posted noted, PORSCHE does not sell the dials...just a new instrument cluster, but my very experience and talented dealer shop foreman assures me that changing the dial faces is not only much less expensive than buying a new cluster, but reprogramming same can be a challenge - more so with a PDK car, but mine is a manual. Anyway, I'm having NO luck in finding a supplier, or should I say, a supplier that will answer their phone. Have tried GMP in North Carolina, and FVD in Florida. Suncoast took my information/request, but have not heard back from them. Someone else recommended TechArt....their website, at least for me is anything but user friendly and I moved on...was really hoping the GMP or FVD would be it. So, I'm standing by and will happily send my 'white' dials to someone as quickly as I can locate the stock black faces. Any positive leads would be most appreciated. Thank you

Just re-checked, and sure enough, my gauge goes to 225...sorry for the misleading (250MPH) information. Still hoping to find someone with an original factory set of black dials to purchase outright, otherwise a 'swap' becomes difficult...someone will need to be without their car while the cluster is out and dials removed.

UPDATE - the FVD representative did return my call and she was very helpful. With the sport chrono dial added, I'm looking at about $1100 and a 3-4 week wait. I sent her photos of the standard black dials as she said her research showed all GT3s (with black dials) to have a gray dial on the tachometer...just not the case. It's interesting too that FVD charges about a $200.00 premium to make the black dials with the correct orange ticks...otherwise they apparently come with white ticks. Who knew this would be such a hassle.
The pictures requested is to make it identical to OEM as opposed to second guessing and hoping for the best.

So much chatting on different dials, can those with unique ones share? Mine definitely has the grey center and I find it a bit dull compared to my CGTS that had the red center. Love the black Chromo dial with the shiny accents, is that what some have on the tach?

Note, this is my experience on n a 991.1.
If you are considering buying a pre-owned instrument gauge cluster with different color gauges be aware:
1). The cluster is not "plug and play" and can not can not be switched out as the miles are hard coded into the instrument cluster (more details below)
2). Whatever you purchase be consistent. I purchased an OEM instrument gauge with yellow gauges and a $100 yellow sport chrono face from ebay. When I looked at them next to each other not installed in the car they looked identical. When installed the chrono face is slightly lighter than the OEM gauges. No one notices it but me but drives me nuts.
3). I may have set the world record for the most expensive swap ever --> $3,000
- Instrument Panel - $1,400 with shipping. I thought "not bad'; OEM, factory turbo S on the tach".
- $100 for the yellow chrono gauge face
- Went to Porsche dealer to have them swap out the instrument cluster from my unit (black gauges) to the new one and have the chrono swapped from Black to Yellow). Well, doesn't work this way. The odometer is in the cluster and key programming is tied to it, etc.
- Got a labor bill for $1,500 for the swap.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but did anyone do this? Looking at a car with white gauges and I don't like em I also don't want to throw 3k+ just to change it back to black dials. Also worried about the installation and want it to work perfectly? Is this even possible without ordering brand new instrument cluster from Porsche?
If anyone has made the change please chime in and would you do it again?

You don't need to feel sorry. It is better to write in the same thread, this way all the info is in the same place.
Well, you got to ask yourself: do you risk it or you keep looking at an ugly instrument cluster, LOL.
I personally taken apart a few clusters, not Porsche, but clusters nevertheless and from the above posted youtube video this one is not rocket science either, it is pretty easy as I see it.
So if you are good with your hands there is nothing you can screw up, just be careful and work clean. The way I take the needle off is by twisting it while pulling it upward, that way the force needed to come off is a little bit less. Not with a pry tool like the one in the video.
Of course, when to put it back the same applies, and try to position it exactly the same as it was. If you notice, the needle is parked slightly below the 0 mark. This guy in the video left it an inch below it, LOL. I wonder if the speedo is still correct? NOT!
It seems FVD will do a pretty accurate reproduction of the OEM faces. Not sure they include the "GT3" script on 'em.

OK, yes. I'm working with Venoxy.com to try to recreate the custom GT3 991.1 gauges. I'm close. See attached on venoxy vs OEM. I'm on my 2nd rendition. Trying to keep modifying to get the almost perfect replica. Install is pretty easy. See attached. Note that I had OEM black gauges before this and the grey center gauge. To @gt3991.2 i have my black dials if you want them? Or i will swap them with you for your OEM white? I think i read somewhere that 991.1 vs 991.2 gauges were slightly different somewhere though???

I always liked how the 50th anniversary or speedster cluster looked but @konrad h1 yours looks amazing! Are you planning on selling those or you were building it for yourself? Is that for a 991.2 GT3?
