It’s a bit to crowded on the weekends and many Police.
There are decreasing radius and off camber turns while fun it’s over rated my opinion.
The Cherohala Skyway is the road you want. Lots of high speed sweepers lots of elevation.
129 over by Blood Mtn Ga is another great road.
There is a Smokie Mtn GT group that does have a fall trip planned soon.
They have a website but haven’t responded to my emails.

+1 on Dragon not being the best road in our cars up there. Cherehala could be the best road in the SE... Moonshiner, Blood Mountain, Suches Gap... better suited for our cars in my opinion.

that’s just not true at all. Daytime during weekends is crazy. Weekdays are pretty quiet. Early morning runs on pretty much any day of the year are absolutely incredible.

^^^ moonshiner is a favorite if you visit the area. I'll take 2nd and 3rd gear cornering all day over the dragon. But, if you have not driven the dragon in both directions it is something you should cross of the list. Have fun

Further NE, I just discovered a nice drive on NC 181 between Morganton and Jonas Ridge. Fresh smooth pavement, paved shoulders, nice overlook at the top.
But if you really want to pucker your passengers shorts, either Shull’s Mill Road (1557/1552) between Blowing Rock and Hound Ears, or 194 between Banner Elk and Valle Crucis will get the job done. No room for error on either one.
