Default I need help!!! (Need to pass MD Inspection)

I recently took delivery of my 2019 GT3RS from Colorado. It came with Sharkwerks muffler delete exhaust (which I was going to put on anyway), but now it won’t pass inspection. Porsche of Silver Spring says it has to have center muffler to pass. If anyone in the mid Atlantic area has the original OEM exhaust I could borrow to pass inspection, please contact me via DM.

I would rather not buy an OE exhaust just to turn around and take it back off 😔

Are you just trying to get through Maryland safety inspection so you can get titled and registered?

Did they give you a reason why it needs it to pass?

Sharkwerks states on their site that their muffler bypass is 50 state emissions legal. I know in CA I haven't had a problem with them in the past. The only thing I can think of is if MD has a visual inspection that somehow doesn't allow for such things, but that seems odd to me.

Yes, I’m just trying to get it to pass MD inspection. I called around to different inspectors and they all said the muffler needs to be present, so it must be a visual thing. If I can’t find a local owner that has one, I’ll have to buy a used one off eBay for $3k.

Thanks

Emissions is different from state inspection. I cannot register the car without a state inspection in MD.

Where are you located? I’m willing to pay for round trip shipping plus some extra cash for the favor. If interested, DM me.

How often is the inspection process? Do you guys get window stickers? Thinking you may be better off buying the cheapest muffler you can find just to get thru inspection. Man I am glad I live in Florida...we ditched our inspection stations decades ago.

How sure are you guys about this? Calling the sharkwerks thing a center muffler delete is sort of a misnomer. There's still a part there and it looks a heck of a lot like a muffler. Granted it's not actually a muffler. But it's not like the car is on straight pipes or something!

I used to live in Maryland and had a 997GT3 with "exhaust work" pass emissions every time. Maybe go to another dealer, like Towson?

Don't go to a dealer, they know what things are supposed to look like. Typical inspection (where I live, not MD) is hook up to OBD, if that says OK, take a quick look for anything strange. I have a full cup exhaust on my car, and get it inspected at an "inspection station". After the OBD check, the teenager doing the inspection checks the engine by looking in the front trunk, then gives me a sticker.

If this fails you're welcome to borrow mine, it's just sitting in my garage. Might not be cheap to ship though given size / weight.

Agree, take it to an inspection station that has never seen a 911 before.
