Default 2018 991.2 GT3 Engine Failure

Hi there. New member here. 2 questions for those willing to engage with me. Engine jumped time and the timing chain slapped a hole in the head cover. I haven't seen or heard of any other failures like this one. Anyway.. here's my questions.

1. Does anyone know if these DGG 9A1 engines are interference engines? Did pistons likely hit the valves if/when this thing jumped time? Anyone ever had one of these fully torn down?
2. I found a used engine but the seller says they don't know what car it came out of which is hard to imagine. I would expect the vin# and story of the car this enging came out of before dropping the coin required to buy the used engine. Am I crazy or is this normal is the Porsche world?

Thank you!

There are a few on the thread who can answer #1 for you, but not me.
With respect to #2, if the seller is acting like he doesn't know the VIN of the engine, don't buy that one. I've never bought one, but I like to look at car parts for fun occasionally, and all the used engines I've seen list the VIN, mileage, etc. (but that's maybe only 5 engines that I've even looked at, as I've toyed with the idea of putting a GT3 engine in my base Carrera, without knowing any further details about the complexity of it.)

If it jumped enough yes, sure the pistons can hit the valves.
Curious tho' what is the cause of this failure: tensioner, chain guides or the chain itself?

Not a lot of .2 failures so we are keen to find out more about this. Do you have warranty? Were you driving the car in a track?

Do you know the mileage of the failed engine? Curious, as you'll note the other engine 991.1rs sounds like a similar failure in an adjacent thread and that had done 34K miles

Hey bud, I’m dealing with the same issue. Simone posted the link about my issues with the car. Hopefully I can get away with two new heads and get the car running.

What's the recommended interval for replacing the timing chain?
