Hey everyone!

First thread post here, long time observer on the forum. Grew up around 911's, learned how to drive on a 964, had a ton of seat time in a 997 C2S, finally achieved the dream and picked up one myself about a year ago. I've got a 2019 GT3 Touring. I love it, its amazing, everything you all already know...

In my year of ownership, the car has been great, I always religiously warm the car up by driving conservatively (I've owned M3's and fully understand the importance of warm oil temp; rod bearings anyone?) before getting after it. Once warm, I do drive the car as it's intended when I have the opportunity, but I'm not irresponsible. Anyways, I've put about 4000 miles on the car in the last year, I haven't had any issues at all, it's been bulletproof. However, the other night I was out for a drive with a friend, the car was fully warmed up, I'd been driving for 30 minutes or so already both on freeway and around town, and a few times I got a small grind upshifting between 1-2. This only occurred when doing a WOT acceleration shifting right around redline, twice shifting as normal, once flat-foot shifting. I didn't shift extra quick or aggressively, but faster than I might do in traffic when accelerating modestly. Wasn't trying to win a drag race or anything, I'm too mechanically sympathetic to jam gears quickly...

It was about 45 degrees outside, but again, the car had been running for a while, oil temp was solidly >190 and had been so for a while, water temp was up, I can imagine the trans fluid was warm as well, so I'm trying to make sense of the grind. The car is under CPO warranty, so I'm going to take it in, but wondering if any of you have experienced this in your 991.2 Gt3's.

Grind? Like it made a grinding noise or just felt the synchro teeth a little bit.

When it’s cold I can feel the synchros more, but have never heard a grind.

I did a flat foot shift between 1st & 2nd a few years ago and ground 2nd gear from shifting a bit too quickly. I've not done a flat foot shifted since, and am not experiencing any grinding since then. Glad to hear you have CPO. I'm confident you'll get it taken care of, whatever it takes.

Have a gt3 manual (not touring), with just under 10k miles and when warm, no grinding when shifting, although like you, pretty sympathetic.

Believe these cars have a cable arrangement in the mechanism, so maybe some adjustment is required? Other than that, has the clutch biting point changed?

Hopefully not synchros prematurely tired.

Felt and heard it. Not very loud or anything, but loud enough for me to hear and know something was up.

don't know how many miles in your GT3, but I will recommend to change PDK & gears fluids including the PDK filter.
GT3 transmission are noiser when compared to other Porsche's.

Manual Transmission here. And about 9500 miles.

Sorry couldn’t be more helpful. Sounds like a dealer visit. But that may be a hard one for them to duplicate.

If it doesn't happen all the time, Maybe just a sloppy clutch engagement with your left foot.

When the driveline is cold, the manual doesn't like to be shifted too quickly. Mine doesn't grind, but can sort of clunk into second gear when cold.

Any idea how long it would take to warm up the driveline? I usually assumed that by the time the oil temp is up to temperature, the driveline would be sufficiently warmed up.

Similar to what @mattyf said; I sometimes feel the synchro teeth a bit when it's cold out and I just start driving. Goes away as the car gets warmer and I've rowed through gears a bit, tho not as quickly as the engine takes to get to temp. I have a 2019 Touring as well with approx 14,500 miles on it, 10k of which I put on in my year of ownership.
