Default .1 vs .2 GT3 resale

What is truly the big reason why the .1 and .2 GT3 models sell for such a stark pricing difference? Is it because of the -25hp, is there something mechanically superior, or is it just a time thing?

Been looking for a .2 for months now. Just always been surprised at the price difference.

Thanks for input!

the .1 had the engine issues which ultimately led to a 10 year engine warranty from Porsche

the 10 year engine warranty is coming to an end (991.1 GT3 was produced from 2014-2016) - hence why the price difference

the 'general public' are going to be weary of the potential cost of engine failure on the .1 gt3

while the .2 gt3 does not have the documented finger follower issue the .1 gt3 has - if you dig around the forums, you can hear about .2 gt3 engine failures as well (maybe not to the same degree of the .1)

but inherently - these are race derived engines

That really helps cleared up. Thanks for the info. What are the typical sources for engine failures on either of these engines?

the .1 is the finger follower issues - there is no actual fix available to the public at the moment

someone on the forum is working on the fix - but the estimated cost is anywhere from 20-60k if i recall correctly

the .2 - i did not follow too closely as it seems to be one off

If I were in the market and wanted to save money, I would strongly consider a 991.1 with the upgraded "G" engine. AFAIK, they have been very strong. My replacement engine was great. But you must differentiate between an early replacement, and one with a later developed "G" engine.

Would you consider a .1 GT3 with an "F" engine? Looking at one that had an engine replaced in 2015-16 timeframe.

If you plan to track it, I would not. The problem is tied to sustained high rpms especially in track enviorements. Some F engines have made it past 50k including track miles, but I think it's a risk.

If you plan to street drive it, willing to change the oil often, then I would consider it. Remember a .1 GT3 cost delta is very roughly the cost of a used engine replace.

Is the price delta in the second case worth the price delta to you, for something that MAY happen? That depends on you.

It is a fair question. The "F" engine in my previous 2015 .1 failed at 9k miles, and was replaced with a "G" engine which I aggressively tracked without concern.
Another consideration is, when you decide to sell it, what will the market be like for 991.1 with an "F" engine.

Will be a tough sell for these after the 10 year warranty is up.

In a word, no. Depending on price, CPO status, whether it's good deal might sway me. No CPO and coming out of 10Y warranty within next 6 months, hard pass. Just not worth the risk. I just purhcased a 2014 w/ G6 but I could buy another Porsche with the difference between the car I bought a 991.2 GT3 with similar mileage/spec.
