Default Will there be an RS?

My dealership is asking for a commitment next week on the #2 car. If I pass and there's not an RS coming, or for years out so P can sell everyone a GT3 first, I'll kick myself.

Is there any chance Porsche won't make in RS in the next 18 months or so? My guess is no, but then I've seen nothing, absolutely nothing on a 991 RS in the media.

why wouldn't they make an RS?

They'll make an RS, and RSS, and RRSS, and keep it going as long as we buy.

I believe they have to since the RS provides a homologation model for use in a range of racing series.

I wouldn't count on it... Almost 2 years ago -before any 991 was announced- on this board there was an "insider rumor" posted that "down the road" there would be a 400HP Carrera version (now "S", check!) and a 480HP GT version (okay 5 less now) simply called "GT3" available and that was it . I guess, we'll see, and if so, I think it would be a very different car, different engine and very, very expensive (mid 200's).

They need to sell 300 cars for homologation. I doubt the non-RS counts.

They'll make an RS. Even if they don't, you can buy a slightly used GT3 and save yourself money. Don't sweat it.

There will be RS for sure - will be very close to the factory race cars in appearance inside and out - much more differentiation from GT3 than previously, including price...

Thanks Grant, is this an opinion or based on information you were given? If the RS starts at $150K I'm in, but if it becomes a $180K 911 I'm out.

It's from a traditionally reliable source in Germany - Power north of 500hp and price probably somewhere between your bookends. Other sources have also hinted at the possibility of a manual gearbox option.

I heard from Porsche source that rs will have a 4.2l motor or even larger and have 550hp.

I think the RS will be launched in 2015 but my dealer is speculating that there'll be no RS due to Porsche focussing on the 960/929. Your guess is as good as mine.

Dealers frequently dispel rumors of future models to encourage sales of current models.
