Thoughts on getting an oil change after break in?
How many of you think this is a good idea? My situation would mean that the car just finished break in and will be put into storage for the next 6 months if that makes a difference. Is this something most of you will do?

If it were a routine engine rebuild, but especially if the bottom end was done, the usual course of events (from my experience) would be that after the initial startup and 10 minutes of running at 2,000 rpm, change the oil and filter. Then break in the engine with 1,000 miles of running -- non or little of it at constant speeds, such as 55 mph; going up and down the rev range would be best, sort of like around-town driving -- then change the oil/filter again. Depending on circumstances, you might also consider another oil change at 5,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. Frankly, I try to remember to change oil/filter at least once a year regardless of mileage or newness of the engine.

people's preferences are all over the place on this. I would do it after 2000 miles or when you are going to store it, which ever comes first.

Used oil contains acidic products of combustion. So the oil should be changed before storing the car.
