Sepang 991 GT3/ Turbo S trackday
I was fortunate enough to be invited by our Porsche distributor to a Sepang Trackday to test out the 991 GT3 and Turbo S.
In summary: The GT3 simply delivers. Once more, it is becoming more civilised with the PDK tranny, comfy interior and better suspension, yet it continues to deliver the handling and track day excitement of a Porsche GT car. It is the car as what journalists say it is.
But what is surprising is the Turbo S. Many of us, myself included, think of the Turbo S as the cruising, straight-line power vehicle, but I was proven wrong. The track capabilities of the Turbo S is not completely overshadowed by the GT3. In fact, the GT3 could not catch the Turbo S on any part of Sepang whether it is on the turns, braking, and of course accelerating. The Turbo S on regular road tires and the GT3 on MPSC2. Perhaps this is down to driver and the GT3 tires were simply heat cycled out or simply the big track with fast sweeping turns favours the Turbo S. The fact is the Turbo S is capable on track as well. The hot laps were done by Porsche Supercup drivers having a GO at each other while giving us clients a ride. Fantastic experience.
Still, there is a big difference in feel, drama, and sensation when aboard the GT3, so much so that the 6 of us that attended the event all ended up choosing the GT3 and perhaps all end up acquiring one because of the fantastic experience with the car.
I have some pics to share.

I just tracked my TTS for the first time. First ever session, it was almost 3 seconds faster (completely stock on stock Pirelli P zero tires which are ****) than my 997.2 RS on super sports. It almost feels like a naturally aspirated car with no lag. The boost is so addictive. Even with PDCC, the body roll is way too much for my liking and the weight of the car eats up tires and brakes and you can't quite toss it into corners. Out of the box, way better than I thought. It's still my poseur daily driver. Had to get the rubber marks off quick so no one would see!

Thanks, that's interesting. I can see the 2 straights and the big sweepers favoring the turbo. I had the opportunity to drive SIC in Jan 2012 (in just my little Cayman 2.9) and thought it was a great track. The double apex T7-T8 is a blast.

acmurciev12, glad you enjoyed the trip out to Sepang. I was offered a slot but had to bail due to work. Sepang is a circuit which favours BHP with the longer straights and sweeping turns, not much in terms of tights and twisties for the GT3 to excel over the TTS.
*must not miss the next event!

I own a 991 Turbo S. I had Sport cup 2s waiting at the dealer when car arrived. Ripped those Pirelli's right off, and drove to ROAD AMERICA.
Just recommended tire pressures make no sense.
P zeros 38/47, sport cup2s 29/33.
Also, went to Homestead road course with a friend that has a 2014 991GT 3. Cars where about equal, but he is a way better driver then me.

the sepang event is a regional undertaking i think. we were the philippine contingent and there was an indonesian group that went after us.
still the ultimate track car is the GT3. and if it were a smaller track, the GT3 would definitely shine even more against the Turbo S. but i was just surprised at what the Turbo S could do, however lacking a lot of feel and sensation for the driver.
i was telling the instructor you can get into more trouble in the Turbo S because the speed builds up so much faster and you don't realise that you are going so fast already that one can end up overcooking the corner. i had to look at the speedo from time to time to check how fast i was going, whereas on the GT3, the car just makes the driver feel what it is doing and how fast it is running.
