Buy GT3 First Then RS
Gentlemen, just curious but it seems most RS owners buy the GT3 first then sell it when the RS comes out. Is it that most RS owners just want to see how the GT3 drives with the plan of getting the RS all along? How many RS owners go down this road?

I did not plan for the RS. I loved my gt3 and planned on keeping it. In the end, the historical significance, performance differences, and the ability to custom configure as I wanted, pushed me to the rennsport. Never looked back.

Yes I bought the GT3 first then the RS for both 997.2 and 991. Not sure why cuz I knew I wanted the RS. I think I was just impatient. I don't know if I'll do the same for the 991.2. The good thing is you don't lose much money, if any, by buying the GT3 and selling it when the RS comes out.

I bought the GT3 first because they don't let you test drive these damn things and I didn't know anyone who owned one. Knew in my heart it was time to make a jump and realize a childhood dream, but didn't really know why or if I would like the car once I actually got it. So got the GT3, loved it and kept reading and hearing about all the little differences with the RS. Worth the 90k difference? Probably not, but very few of my car purchases have ever been logical. Love every minute of this car!

Color is my 1st preference so it will remain GT3 unless I can find a Riviera Blue RS at some point. Being that I only use it for street, it's almost moot to own an RS.

Most of us knew, from prior PAG GT history, the GT3 would be available first, followed by several years for
the successor, GT3RS, which would be slightly faster and more track focused. GT3's started being delivered
in late 2013 as 2014 models, far earlier than the 2016 GT3RS. My GT3 order was placed back in 2012, long
before PAG announced it. For those buying now, the GT3 simply provides the most performance per dollar, 95% of the RS performance for 70% of the cost.

991S 2013
991 GT3 2015
991 RS 2016 on its way
Read a lot about Porsche so I tried the 991S, and never looked back.

I wasn't planning to get an RS when I got my GT3 because I didn't think I needed any harder core of a car for mostly road driving. Unfortunately I missed out on the buckets by two weeks and felt the car should have those. Also, I much prefer the RS steering wheel/paddles. When I started looking at adding buckets and the RS wheel the cost difference dropped a lot. Then adding the special body panels and the 4.0 engine pushed it over the top for me. Also, it's no more compromised on the road than the GT3 and in some ways better.

My 2016 GT3 was my first sports car / Porsche. I was specifically buying a track toy that I could also putz around town / countryside cruising if I wanted.
Not having experience with previous GT cars and not having seen the 991 RS until AFTER I bought my 3.... I didn't realize just how much more track-focused the RS was going to be.
So, I ended up only keeping my 3 for approx 8 months.

GT3 is always first to come out. RS always follows.
Enthusiasts buy them while they sit on the wait list for the RS and typically trade up when the time comes.

I think the GT3 first lets your dealer know that your a serious buyer for the RS, I had to purchase 3 other cars and threaten my salesman's life before i got an allocation. I dont recommend that 4th option i just spoke of,but it was effective!!!
