Maybe now that the 991 GT3 has gone the bling route they can make the Cayman the real track weapon.

Needs some agro flares and more rubber though...

I do not understand your comments regarding the 991GT3. The car is about performance and the 991 will out perform all previous GT3's.

I assume because it does not have manual and bucket seats you consider this a patsy car and no longer fun to drive. If it is fun to drive you are looking for drive the Boxster or Cayman. Better yet drive a Miata. All three are blast drive while inhaling exhaust fumes.

I love the idea of a Cayman GT3 but it would inevitably be under-powered for marketing reasons...

Bottom line is the Cayman is rear mid-engine which is the best platform to start with - period. Any car that has its engine positioned outside the axles is starting out with a handicap, and must rely on engineering gymnastics to overcome it.
The only thing that has kept the rear engined Carerra in production is the need for nastalgia of most the people wealthy enough to afford one. Same exact thing as with BMW motorcycle owners arcaic boxer engine they kept alive long past its time.

Was referring to excess weight, lack of race-derived motor, and Panamera interior.

I'd take that too... Although I'd doubt they'll ever be that generous in the power department...

I don't get this obsession with numerical performance on the traction limits. Over 90% of the buyers would most likely not be able to go faster in this than a pro can do in a 996 GT3...

You may be right.

However, let's compare apples to apples. A competent driver in the 996/997GT3 and a competent driver in the 991GT3. No contest. The 991 GT3 has more hp, PDK, front and rear steering and comparable weight.

The Gt3 whatever year is a track car. Performance is what matters. The new GT3 trumps them all.

Quick Reply: Cayman Gt3 RS anyone?!
