As we patiently wait the outcome of our soap opera, like myself deciding what to do I saw several queries of folks looking for a substitute if we don't keep the GT3, w/ the McLaren 12C as a candidate?

I can only speak for myself, but this comparison isn't even in the same stratosphere????

I can list the mechanical differences, but won't. (If you're on this thread for GT3, you're obviously more than an average car enthusiast and already know the cars).

But, the "feel" of these two cars couldn't be further from each other and am rather surprised that folks are considering this as a substitute?

I'm afraid that anyone looking at McLarens are now completely changing their broad picture of where "driving" falls in their life picture and moving on to different pastures?

Personally, I think McLaren's are very COOL cars. (Love the doors.) All of the dealers just liquidated their floor plans and wholesaled them out to the second tier resellers to prepare for the new 650's about to hit. The MSRP vs. what they can be purchased for is HUGE.

What kind of discounts are we looking at? I always thought the pricing difference was significant. But others here are saying is manageable? Which in itself is relative.

It seems like there's a number of people here considering, or at least trying out the 12C. While I would rather have a GT3, it's one of the few cars I'd genuinely consider as an alternative. That is, if we actually had a McLaren dealer in my area...

The 650S will be a huge blow to 12C values. Out of curiosity how low are transaction prices for the 12C?

A quick look around online shows prices in the 180's for 12C's a few years old with low miles. I'd imagine around that price, or lower.

I believe someone mentioned in another thread that they could get a 12C for within 15% more of the MSRP of their GT3.

You can get a great deal on any McLaren . It's a buyers market . You should go for a long test drive and also cruise the Ferrari store and try a 430.

It's good to sample as all these cars have different automotive personalities if you will.
You can steal McLarens coupes. Spiders are more expensive.

That was me. I paid for mine $172k with 2K miles. There are way too many available and as others pointed out they are really motivated to move them so they can make room for the new inventory. They are also missing out on service and parts revenue while these sit idle accumulating dust. Parts & service are the most profitable segments of most manufacturers.

Don't be discouraged by the asking prices which in most cases above $200K, just make them an offer like I did and just walk away. They will chase you to make a deal. Mark

Yes, I've seen some higher mileage (6-7K - still nothing) cars listed at $180K-190K with $260-270K MSRPs. I imagine they would sell in low $160Ks if not lower. Very tempting. I am not sure about the maintenance costs, as I'm planning to keep the car for a while. Otherwise, I would have jumped on it already.
