Hello everyone!

I'm planning to order a GT3, but the dealer told me that all the GT3 in America won't come with the OEM roll cage.

Seems like the beautiful sports seat that we saw in most of the video on youtube is also not an option on porsche's web. Is that something to do with the policy of the US government? Since my 2013 golf R also came without the Recaro sports seat.

US Department of Transportation / National Highway Traffic Safety Administration rules & regulations. As interpreted by Porsche (correctly no doubt), it prevents the fitment of 'race track' roll bars to a street vehicle imported into the US! Might have something to do with DOT's 'Head Impact Protection / Safety Standards', but I am not certain.

Easy answer.

In North America there are too many lawyers and not enough crash testing.

Thus we do not get the clubsport option.

It's not attorneys. Correct - US safety requirements are different from other parts of the world. Here we can't have non-deform-able objects in the cabin that might injure the head of an unbelted occupant. Other parts of the world assume occupants are belted. As for the seats, 'smart' airbags require sensors in the seats to determine if the passenger is belted, and how much the person weighs, in order to determine parameters of airbag deployment. Not a bad idea, but with optional seats catering to a small market of already limited volume vehicles like the GT3 and your Golf R, you can see where it would not make sense for manufacturers to spend the money making a unique seat with these sensors.

While I don't agree with all US safety regs, EU requirements for pedestrian safety resulting in hideous front end design we are seeing on new models are far worse, IMO.

always thought Americans are stronger than Europeans or Asians thus no protection needed by silly roll cage. I think NHTSA has some study to validate that.

Unless you would plan on driving your car with a helmet on why would you want the roll bar?
I'd prefer to not have something hard in the cab if I get in an accident with no helmet.

Because Porsche just doesn't care. They are aasholes for not providing the (free, no cost option in ROW!!!!) CS package in a box in the US.

Easy, slap a sticker on said box that says "offroad only" and charge us 5K. I almost want to buy a M4 just to advertise it against Porsche's spineless approach to our safety.

Haha, my old thread here. I'm a happy man now since bucket seat became available later and I order it for my GT3

I think what it comes down to is actually the # of the M4 GTS they brought into the country. I think that if the total coming in to the USA is less than X they can do it with DOT approval. I do love having it though in the GTS 😀 Now if we can import the proper seats from BMW in the USA. They where blocked because they didn't have height adjustment.
