Default PCM Re-booting every 2 minutes

So today around 6pm after golf, get in to drive home and PCM reboots every 2-3 minutes. I’m really pissed as this happened to my old 997 and that was the end of the PCM. Got home and did a Rennlist search. In the 991 forum there were a whole bunch of guys having the same issue. Apparently it’s an XM/Sirius update that went out some time over the last 24 hours. Not sure if all PCMs are affected or only .1’s. But the fix is fairly simple but involves resetting PCM to factory and re-syncing XM.

I did that and then drove for 20 minutes and it appears to have solved the issue. So I’m hoping it’s all good. But wanted to post here in case anyone is having this issue. If so go to 991 forum and you’ll find the thread.

XM radio update. see 991 forum (and why we need to keep track of both forums):

Totally fixable, DIY, it seems.

Directly from PCNA:

It was brought to our attention, the PCM keeps rebooting on a number of vehicles at the moment.

Important: Please DO NOT replace any parts or hardware on a vehicle, due to this issue.

Please perform a PCM handover (also known as a PCM hard reset):
  • Press and hold the PCM>>Info button for approximately 10 seconds until the PCM reboots.
  • Immediately select the following from the PCM CAR>>OPTION>>Set PCM System>>Reset PCM>>Vehicle Handover>>Yes>>Yes
These instructions can be found in the respective Owner’s Manuals for affected vehicles. Therefore, this is an appropriate suggestion to give customers and may prevent workshop visits. If the vehicle is already at the workshop, the technician should update it to the latest available software level.

Be aware that hard resetting the PCM will remove all personalized settings.

Take a deep breath. Your PCM isnt broken. And you can fix it in 5-10 minutes at home. In the context of life..

I feel good that my PCM didnt break as that DID happen to my 997 and it was going to be $5K. So i sold it

Is your Porsche Communication Management/Navigation system rebooting by itself right now?

I wanted to send you a quick note that it was brought to our attention that on Wednesday night Sirius/XM sent out and update over the air Models that could be impacted: from Porsche local dealer
2010-2016 Panamera
2012-2016 Cayenne
2012-2016 911
2012-2016 Boxster/Cayman
2014-2016 Macan

Press and hold the PCM>>Info button for approximately 10 seconds until the PCM reboots.
Immediately select the following from the PCM CAR>>OPTION>>Set PCM System>>Reset PCM>>Vehicle Handover>>Yes>>Yes

These instructions can also be found in your Owner's Manuals.

We are sorry for the inconvenience that this may have caused and we remain at your service,

We have found a potential solution to remedy this. You will need to perform a PCM handover (also known as a PCM hard reset) -

Press and hold the PCM>>Info button for approximately 10 seconds until the PCM reboots.

The fix did work. Just put back in my favorites, and re-paired the phone.

Did not affect our 2017 Macan GTS however. It is still working fine.

Well, glad to hear it is a Sirius pile of s__t, not a $5000 repair. However, the procedure above did NOT work on my '14 TurboS. I followed the directions in the owner's manual, and I HOPE that did it.
