Default X-pipe install - easy to DIY?

Hey all. I recently ordered a Soul Performance X-pipe which is arriving in a few days. Wondering if installing an x-pipe is generally an easy process or if I should find an installer? I am pretty handy, have a portable lift and the right tools but not sure if the bumper has to come off or whether it can installed without removing the bumper. I have a 991.2 Turbo S.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you for choosing us to enhance your Turbo! There are a lot of pieces to the exhaust but that doesn't mean it's necessarily a complicated installation. When we have done 991 Turbo exhaust installations we did not have to remove the bumper. We generally remove the entire factory exhaust - catalytic converter sections and rear exhaust at once. From there you can assemble the SOUL exhaust and lift that up to the car and complete as laid out in our installation guide. We definitely recommend hitting all connection points with penetrating fluid prior to removal of the factory system - let it sit overnight if you can to make things come apart easier. Make sure to be very careful with the O2 sensors. In most cases you can reuse the factory turbo gaskets but if you want to be 100% safe you can order new OEM. If you have any questions during your installation give us a call! Alternatively given your location you have a wealth of installers to choose from.

Here is a link to our installation instructions.

thanks Mike. Helpful input... still interested to hear from any weekend wrenchers who might have done this to see if it something I want to take on. Would also be interested in what local installers you have, will PM you separately.

I installed my Kline exhaust at home without a lift. I did not take the bumper off on mine as well. It was snug to get out but i dropped it all as one including cats. I would definitely pre soak everything the day before especially the o2's. It was not bad at all.

Much harder to get the old stuff out than getting the new stuff in. Heat cycles and corrosion, as well as some tight clearance spots add to the challenge. Definitely soak the fasteners before. Even with that I had to use a punch and hammer to break a few free. I dropped my bumper because I was doing coolers at the same time which made things easier. Bumper comes off easy.

I had my Soul x-pipe installed this past summer

Though both my sales rep and the instruction manual say that the bumper does not have to be removed, when I was watching my shop do the install, we both agreed that having the bumper off generally made things a lot easier.

Also, if you are by yourself, it would be nice to have a transmission jack handy for when you drop the old exhaust out - the thing is very heavy and awkward to hold

Just did mine last week. While it can be done with out bumper removal, I elected to do that since I wanted to replace my air cleaner. Not a tough job. I ended up dropping the passenger side CAT and wiggling things out from there...The stock can is not outrageously heavy, so not a hard job for one person.. No need to pull 02 sensors as there is plenty of slack. Not a terribly difficult job, but a little fidly...I would say, the job is easier with the bumper off, but not impossible. I did it on 5" race ramps which gave me plenty of access...I did have to expand the Soul pipe ends to fit the stock cats, but this can me done with either an expander or pliers to open the ends a bit and allow them to slip together.

I just installed a Soul on mine as well. Definitely recommend remove the rear bumper. My car had 25k miles on the stock exhaust and took a fair amount of effort to remove the stock exhaust. Installing the new exhaust was easy, found that I also had to slightly expand the openings in the Soul to slip over the stock cats.

Thanks for all the input. Will let you know what happens . As an aside, seems odd that these don't fit without any modification.

I have the Soul X-pipe on my 991.2 Turbo S Cab. Yes, there is some drone, but only slightly more than the stock exhaust. I am very happy with the results, but you need to know, there will be some drone.
