I rarely have to do a full hand-wash on mine. I use a CR Spotless water system on a roller cart, which I run through a low-pressure, portable electric power-washer, then blow-dry with an EGO high-power electric leaf blower. Very little sticks to the ceramic, and blow-drying virtually eliminates the possibility of swirl marks, which are more visible on black. Even good microfibers can cause swirl marks.
The process I describe above takes me about 15 minutes, which is easy to fit in to a busy schedule once a week or so.

If your car hasn't been ceramic-coated, take it to a premium detailer for a surface decontamination (clay bar, etc.), paint correction/polish, and ceramic coating. The ceramic makes even black car care easy compared to the "old days." Virtually nothing sticks to the paint surface.

If anyone has recommendations in the LA area let me know, thanks!

I also had an 87 Mazda RX-7 Turbo II. Loved that car until all kinds of electrical problems started.
