The rear end looks like if Michael Bay put together another Transformers Movie and just needed to tweak the back. If this is indeed what they will put into production, this will be one of those rare times I don't like the way the redesign looks. It's just too mechanical choppy for this Salty-Dog!

Default battery placement

I am not an engineer, but it seems clear to me that if one of the batteries is a few inches thick, it could easily go in the frunk, which is quite deep now. Others could go in the spaces behind the front seats. However, I am confident that Porsche engineers have been contemplating the placement of motors and batteries for some time now and that the changing technology of batteries will make electric torque at least to the front wheels a reality in the next 911 turbo. Given a lot more torque, the added weight of the batteries and motors will not be a performance deterrent, for if it is, Porsche would not use them. Maybe Porsche will go with a CF tub for weight saving. With the 918 it is clear that Porsche focused on performance below around 130-150 mph and let the LaFerrari and P1 prevail at near terminal speeds.

I agree with Speed21's impressions of the Macan steering wheel and the other comment about the rear fascia in the spy photos of the 991.5. The slots in the rear fascia recall those in the 996, which to me are not attractive and certainly not new. I realize that Porsche has to do a few more things to the 991.5 to differentiate it from the 991, which will probably include a 20 ph power bump, but all in no big changes. Of course, it will cost more than the 991 and given the decline in the euro, that will be meaningful to US-derived profits. FWIW, how many can and do drive their TTS's at 10/10 around a circuit?

I'll just wait until the big changes are made in the next model, which I expect will be a hybrid with 700 hp or so. In the meantime, I will just have to endure the excruciatingly difficult work of adjusting volume, activating/deactivating sport, sport plus, phone, and PDCC with the toggles. Fact is that the TTS is a good value for the performance right now. Any guesses about the base price boost for the 991.5 or whatever it will be called?
The key is what type of hybrid mechanism they will use. Perhaps like a KERS System inline to the trans axle. Or perhaps a combined hybrid KERS-Electrical system. Who knows - anything is possible!

Got to play around with the new steering wheel Manettino, (in a 918) same SW destined for 991.5. Very nice feature! The barrell can be rotated either way to select sports, sports plus etc.. or the range of functions applicable to the car. I guess there goes the thought I could change over my existing MF with the new one....damn . But with the new m/feature I am certainly very warm to the new steering wheel now.

Is the 918 steering wheel metal or plastic?

I really wish the rear wing was more prominent to better complement the extra wide hips. The 997 does it better, IMO:

I built this car on the Porsche configurator and the order was placed at my dealer for July delivery. It looks pretty much the same as the 2015, but the rear spoiler now has an upwards lip...

There are supposed to be some other subtle differences as well...

On the interior, does it have the 918 style steering wheel?

I was just told from the dealer today that the 2016 turbo & S will not get the new wheel. This is direct from porsche North America according to them for whatever that's worth. Have a deposit on a August delivery Turbo S and really wanted the new wheel myself.

Here's the 2016 wheel for ya --and you can go to build the car on Porsche.com and see it from every angle - and all the changes...

This looks like the current spoiler, but with the optional aero package, unless I'm missing something.

Not to burst the 2016 bubble but the car illustrated in the builder is the 2015 model with the aerokit turbo option.

So the upward lipped spoiler is a current option that exists in the Aero kit? I did not know that!

all those reflectors are so damn ugly
it appears they are notching the rear taillights much like they did on the 997.2

the 991 is a beautiful car - porsche should focus on the next gt2 .. is one coming?
