The 992 isn't my cup of tea at the moment either, but rather than it being black (horrid) or white (beautiful) about it, I see the grey
1. I like the front, the squared off hood line
2. I don't really like the back.
3. I don't like the shifter
4. I do like the dash
etc
To me, to call it horrid, is basically calling all 911's horrid, because every 911, looks like a 911.

I think the real minimal sweet spot with 911 upgrading, for current owners, it to skip 2 iterations. For example if you have a 997.1 it's possible the 991.1 offers you something but not the 997.2. Another example is if you are coming from a 991.2 I'd wait till the 992.2 is launched, and not 'chase' the next new shiny toy. YMMV.

did anyone make the jump yet? i'm being conned into test driving the 992 today...i'm nervous it may be too good I love driving manual and wouldnt have it any other way, but is the new 992 interior/technology and magic of PDK enough to sell me over?? power is more or less the same as my GTS (992 faster with PDK off the line) and it brings all of the new chassis/body upgrades, so....
will report back....curious if anyone else is going through this dilemma

I have spent time with the Corvette C8 though at Atlanta and the 992, just no test drive yet.
I'm more impressed with the C8 convertible - don't throw stones at me please...
again havent driven the 992
I'll take a test drive at Porsche St louis later.

I am a 991.1 owner, and probably future 991.2 owner.

I agree with stout except I would wait to take a test drive until the manual comes out! As much as I would want to like a PDK/dual-clutch, since it would open up a lot more different choices for my next sports car, I would be bored driving one after driving manuals for so long.
This is my first Porsche sports car since 1970 that is not a manual. TG for PDK! I loved all my manuals except the last one, a 7 speed manual 2015 C2S. As much as I loved my 6 speed manuals, the 7 speed manual is ugly. And stupid overdrive gear after overdrive gear! I'm not buying another manual Porsche until it shifts like the 6 speed, or the lovely close ratio 6 speed GT3 manual. Either bring that one on, or PDK rules!!
That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

The following is all JMO. The 992 is the first generation where the SportDesign front end actually looks better than the standard front end. That's saying something about both current front ends, too. The 992 is an undeniably great car and I would like to own one, but it looks as though ZIL was trying to design a 911 knock-off, and Porsche just went with that. The 997, 991.1 and 991.2 are all better looking cars.

Three Wheelin'
would be a costly upgrade with marginal gain

Skip the test drive. It will just make your 991.2 feel old and dated. Why take the risk?
